Disney TSUM TSUM Review

2 April 2015 by Eileen

Did you know that Disney Tsum Tsum has made its way to Disney Stores across the UK? This is following phenomenal success in Japan, with the launch of a range of stackable and collectible soft toys featuring favourite Disney characters from Mickey and Minnie Mouse to Dumbo, Donald Duck, Frozen characters and many more.

Disney Tsum Tsum (pronounced ‘Soom Soom’) means “stack stack” in Japanese, and stems from the Japanese Zen art of stone stacking. The soft toys are designed to be stacked big and high, the soft and cuddly toys are available in small (RRP £3), medium (RRP £10) and large sizes (RRP £20), allowing each individual to build a collection of their most adored Disney characters.

We have received a few small (approximate 9 cm by 4.5 cm by 5 cm) and medium size (approximate 30 cm by 16 cm by 19 cm) soft toy Tsum Tsums. Both my children were torn over which one to keep! They both wanted all of them so badly!

Each cute and cuddly soft toy comes with a squeezy bean bag tummy that is filled with plastic pellets and a slightly flat body for stacking. The materials are soft and very well stitched together. Overall they are made from good quality materials and are great value for money.

The soft toys are available at the Disney Store in 34 much-loved Disney characters, including: Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Donald Duck, Dumbo, Bambi, Jiminy Cricket and Stitch. In honour of Tsum Tsum, the first Tuesday of each month will be renamed ‘Tsum Tsum Tuesday’ at Disney Stores and will see an additional new character released. The first of these will be a Tsum Tsum Alice in Wonderland on 7th April 2015 which is sure to create excitement amongst Disney fans. The range will be refreshed throughout the year providing Disney Store guests the opportunity to add to their collection.

Disney Tsum Tsum was originally developed in Japan as a social mobile smartphone game then followed by a collection of soft toys. Within four days of launching, the app was downloaded one million times, with 30 million global downloads of the app in the first three months since the launch of the English version.

We have also downloaded it free (in-app purchases) on iTunes and it is also available to download via Google Play. Both children and I love it. It is quite addictive! Before you start the app, you are asked to log in either as a guest or your LINE messenger app account. I didn’t have a LINE account, so I logged in as a guest but this doesn’t allow me to enjoy social features in-game, like competing for high scores on leaderboards and gifting, with their friends.

Once logged in, you can connect and pop as many of the Disney Tsum Tsum characters as you can in one minute. The more Tsums eliminated within each level, the higher the score. As you progress through the game, players collect Disney Tsum, like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Stitch and Buzz Lightyear. Each collectable character can be levelled up over time and has a special ability that provides in-game help. This comes with in-app purchases, so do remember to set the respective restrictions if you allow your children to play it. Do check your local Disney Store regularly and see what their next new range is!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

They are so cute aren’t they. I could see them becoming an expensive addiction.
