I was brought up in Singapore and used to drink from the tap as we had soft water and so had less limescale. Since moving to the UK, I have always lived in hard water areas. As I found out, the hardness of your water is not just dependent on your supplier but also on your postcode. While experts say it is generally not harmful to your health, I believe it affects the taste of water and therefore any beverage made from it.
Since I came to UK, I have been using a water filter religiously for my family. I will use it for cooking, making drinks for children and all sorts. I think it is so much nicer to drink too. I’ve also not had to descale my kettle for years as it still remains clean.
Recently Aqua Optima got in touch to see if I would like to try them out. I thought why not. I have been using the same brand for over 10 years and this brand’s water filters are getting very expensive nowadays. It is about time to look for an alternative without compromising the quality of the water.
So I have received this 2 litre water filter fridge jug. Inside it also includes three months worth of water filters. When I checked out their price, I was shocked. It is very affordable.
The jug is well made with a good chunky handle. The lid comes with a small monthly dial and a small clear opening flap. I’m not accustomed to using the dial yet as my old jug used have a digital reminder. However, you need not worry about forgetting to change it. Aqua Optima has a free app for you to download to your smartphone to remind you to change it and when to get it changed. I like the idea of the clear lid so you can see how much more water to fill into the water tank but it does trap drops of water.
To place the water filter into the water tank, it does take a while to push it in and lock it in place. After a few tries, I got the hang of it. The pour of the water is great and it doesn’t drip from the tip. It is slim and a nice looking jug which goes well with most kitchen appliances.
I can’t tell the difference between the water from my old branded jug or from Aqua Optima. They both taste equally the same. So for me, Aqua Optima is definitely as good as a branded brand. I would definitely recommend them for great value for money. The replacement water filters are inexpensive too.
