ZAZU SAM Sleeptrainer & Nightlight Review

20 October 2014 by Eileen

Need an hour extra lie-in this weekend? Is your children getting up too early? We have found the perfect solution for Mr K who wakes up at 6.30 am every morning. We have trialled using a proper alarm clock but it didn’t work with him as the alarm is too loud and he can’t understand how to read the clock properly. He is six and their school has just started to teach them time.

ZAZU SAM sleeptrainer and nightlight

This ZAZU SAM Sleeptrainer comes displays both a digital and analogue clock face on the LED screen which is helpful for those children who does not understand the point hand clock. Also the LED screen is colour coded to help younger children understand when it is okay to be up. Take a look at this video where they show you how to operate SAM.

SAM comes with a two pin charger (adaptor included). You can choose to use 4 AA batteries or run on mains. It is not recommend to use batteries if you have the intention of using the nightlight throughout the night as it will drain the batteries.

SAM is very well made with a wide base that sits nicely on any surface. The screen is easy to read and easy to set up.

How to train your children?

Firstly, you have to teach them to identify the screen colours and SAM’s eyes. If SAM has his eye closed, it means it is your bedtime and you should stay in bed. When the screen turns green, it means not much longer before they are allowed to wake up. One by one 12 stars will disappear counting down the remaining 30 minutes time. Wait until the LED screen turns light blue and shows the sun, then you can wake up.

Timer nightlight

I love that SAM also come with a nightlight which saves us investing in a new nightlight. To set the nightlight, you have to go via the menu and select it. There are four options to choose from: 5 min, 15 min, 30 min or continuously.

Check out the video if you would like to find out more about the three different melodies, the nightlight and what we think about it: https://youtu.be/Lg4ZGE_3j34

My son loves SAM especially in the morning when he BAA BAAs. Mr K finds it amusing. I find it very useful for Mr K as he is able to understand the concept of this clock and how he should not wake us up until the correct time. The volume of the melodies are perfect for us. It is very soft and gentle compare with some other alarm clocks. Our bedroom is just next door to Mr K and we had not heard it. I love that there are so many uses for SAM. It tells the time, it is also a nightlight and he indeed looks adorable. It operates quietly with no ticking of the clock! I would definitely recommend this. You can get this from good retailer shops or Amazon.
