Egg tarts are one of my husbands favourite Chinese desserts. We always buy it from the Chinese supermarket. So I decided to bake some. This is my second attempt. The first bake didn’t turn out great. I used ready-made mini tarts from Tesco instead of making my own.
To make the egg custard, you need:
- 6 eggs plus 4 extra egg yolks
- 200ml golden syrup
- 200ml fresh milk
- 200ml water
- 2 tablespoon honey
Method:
- Lightly beat the eggs and add golden syrup, water, milk and honey.
- Strain the mixture and pour it into the pastry tarts.
- Bake at 150c fan assisted for 15 minutes. I had to turn the baking tray every 5 minutes to avoid burning the custard.
There are a few variations to this recipe for egg tarts. I will try them out soon and blog it if it is a success!
