Inateck IPX5 Water-resistant Speaker Review

25 September 2014 by Eileen

Inateck has newly released this model Inateck IPX5 water-resistant bluetooth speaker which features a high-performing microphone! We were very impressed with the clear and uninterrupted communication. I used my phone to call my husband and hid the phone about a metre away from the speaker and spoke to him via the Inateck speaker and it all came through very clearly.

The speaker comes in a very well presented box which is ready for sending as a gift. Inside the box, it comes with:

  • Bluetooth speaker
  • a USB charging cable
  • a 3.5mm audio cable
  • a manual
  • a suction cup

The portable speaker is very compact and lightweight and is easy to stick on a glass door or hook to a door handle or in the garden etc. It measures 85mm x 85mm x 45.5mm and weighs 230g.

The design and the colour of the speaker is a common colour of choice for many people. It comes in black with eye-catching orange rim which is protected by a durable rubber tread. On one side of the speaker are the grey coloured buttons for on/off, volume and hands free which is very easy to identify and use. On the other side is the port for 3.5 mm audio input and USB power port which are covered by a detachable rubber seal. It is compatible with all wireless devices with a bluetooth connection, e.g. smartphones, MP3 players, tablets and laptops or any audio device that has a 3.5 mm audiojack output.

We left the speaker inside the shower with water/steam getting into the speaker and after a week, the speaker mesh still looks great, with no signs of corrosion! I am worried that it will get rusty in no time! But do remember this speaker is water-resistant (splash proof in all directions) but it is not supposed to be submerged in water.

Getting it to pair with my gadgets was very simple. It did not require a passcode to set up. The wireless bluetooth can transmit up to 10 metres away which I tested it out using my ipad via radio. I took it downstairs and I was still able to listen to the music and control the volume!

It only take 2 hours to charge the rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery which will give at least 5 hours of continuous, wireless play which is great.

Now back to the most important part of the speaker which is the quality of the sound. I think they sound good. The vocals are clear and there is sufficient bass. When I turn up the volume, which I had to overcome the extractor fan in the shower, the sound didn’t distort nor become too tinny. I am not an audiophile but I think this speaker is good especially at this price point!

My only gripe is with the suction cup as I don’t find it sticky enough. It comes off quite easily with a quick tug so I had to secure it with the strap. I would definitely recommend them as they are great value for money and the hands free feature ensures you won’t miss any important calls.

Do check out my review for the Inateck brand: Inateck hub HB5001, Inateck Bluetooth Keyboard BK1003E, Inateck 2-Port Rapid car charger, Inateck USB 3.0 Hub, Inateck laptop backpack CB1001 and Inateck camera case.

Disclosure: We have received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
