Summer Activities A – Z: I

4 August 2014 by Eileen

Summer activities I! I can’t believe we’re in August and we only have four more weeks to end of the summer holidays! This year instead of sending both children to summer camp, I decided to spend quality time together and used the idea of an A to Z of activities to set the theme for the day. So today is I.

summer activities I

I for Ice cream banana crumble

I had some recently leftover crumble and decided to use it to make an ice cream banana crumble. It is really easy to make and very yummy.

I for Ice game

We put a few toys into plastic tubs, filled them up with water, covered them up and left them in the freezer for at least 4 hours. Then we removed them and let the children smash their way into them to rescue their toys out!

I for Insect

We went out to the nearby field to look for insects using the Interplay Bug Safari kit. We spotted a lot of bees, wasps and spiders! Yuck! We used the bug tongs and managed to capture a few insects and we let them free after examining them.

I for Investigator

We played a made-up game called Investigator. I gave them a few things to look for and clues as to who has kidnapped the teddy bear! I create a ‘crime scene’ and asked my children to ask me questions to solve the case.

I for iPad

We do let them use the iPad as there are many educational benefits to it, and the other apps and games are also great for keeping them occupied. So I let them play while I am cooking. iPad is my best friend whenever I need some time to focus on something. It is my best ever gadget to keep them entertained.

I for I Spy

While we were out at the field, we also played I Spy With My Little Eye. This is our usual car game whenever both the children are bored.

Next up will be the letter J! I think we are going to have a lot of jelly for pudding!
