Summer Activities A – Z: N

25 August 2014 by Eileen

I can’t believe there’s only one week left before school restarts and we are only halfway through our Summer Activities. Today is the letter N.

summer activities n

N for Nature and Nettle

Taking the children for a walk in nature is not something I particularly love to do but it is great for them to learn about nature. So we went on another teddy bears’ picnic and looked for twigs and nettle.

N for Night Safari

One of the main tourist attractions in Singapore is the night safari. Many of Mr C’s friends had recommended it so we decided to give it a try. We arrived just after 8.30 pm and there were already massive crowds of people queuing to get in and hop on the tram. The queue moved very fast and within 15 minutes, we are on the tram. Taking the tram – you can choose to walk all the way, take the tram all the way or do half and half. If you travel with young children, taking tram is obviously much more convenient but you do miss out on many animals so I would recommend walking if you are able to.

N for Night Sky

Getting both children interested in stargazing can be quite hard work. To make it fun, we used kitchen rolls and decorate it with stickers to make a pretend telescope. Anna from In The Playroom made a telescope craft.

N for Ninja

They were playing their TMNT figurines and watched the Mutagen Mayhem DVD. TMNT is one of my childhood favourite TV shows and their new movie is coming out soon.

N for Numbers

Ms C has been practising her Chinese characters and she is able to write from 1 to 21. It is good to know that she didn’t forget after 5 weeks of school holidays.

N for Nuts

When doing our regular food shopping, I showed both of my children the whole range of nuts available to buy. Normally we just walk pass this section as it is not something I normally buy, but through these activities, we all learnt the different types of nuts. We also made Chinese almond cookies! Click here to read more about it.

Look out for our letter O!
