Penguin Ice Adventure launches at SEALIFE Centre

6 April 2014 by Eileen

We were fortunate to be invited to attend The National SEA LIFE Centre in Birmingham, sneak preview to meet the new members – PENGUINS!  The new Penguin Ice Adventure will open its doors on 7th April 2014.

SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham Penguins

The Antarctic-themed enclosure is home to a colony of 12 Gentoo penguins that have flown over 11,000 miles from Auckland, New Zealand to make the Midlands attraction their brand new home.

The fantastically themed Penguin Ice Adventure offers a real insight into the lives and quirky habits of these cheeky birds; whether it’s hearing the unmistakable trumpeting call as the colony communicates to one another, watching them dive in the icy water up to 450 times a day or seeing them playfully move rocks around their home.

Multiple viewing platforms, an indoor temperature of a cool eight degrees Celsius and an interactive ice wall ensure visitors have a truly authentic Antarctic experience. There are also designated areas within the attraction for guests wanting to do their best imitations of the waddling birds.

Mr K and Ms C were so fascinating watching the penguins.  There are a few cheeky ones who kept following their fingers thinking it was food!

The National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham transports visitors to an amazing underwater world, where they get to see incredible sea life from all over the planet, from the coast of Britain and the chilly Antarctic, to the tropical waters of the Caribbean.

The aquarium is home to over 2,000 creatures, such as sharks, including the UK’s only hammerhead sharks, as well as a rescued Giant Green Sea Turtle, otters, jellyfish, piranha, octopus and rays.

They also showed a 4D cinema of Spongebob Squarepants which we had watched last year.  Read here for more details.

Both of my children were having fun looking at the different creatures.  Mr K was so brave to put his hand in to stroke the starfish and crab!  We also went around all 9 stations to complete our mission and get a stamp.  After we completed it, they went to the shop to get their reward!  A medal!  Both of them were so proud.

Disclosure: We attended the launch as guests of the Sea Life Centre and received free entry and a goody bag.  I was not asked to write about our day.  All thoughts are our honest opinions.

wow, I so want to see this. I am somewhat penguin-fixated and my toddler is generally happy to join in. I might need a little more of an excuse to travel that far but I’m sure I can think of something!
