Orchard Toys Rockets and Comets Review

11 March 2014 by Eileen

Rockets and Comets is one of the six new releases for 2014 by Orchard Toys!  We had the opportunity to try it out at the Toy Fair 2014 and both children loved it.

Rockets and Comets is very similar to the classic game Snakes and Ladders.  The concept is the same but set in a space theme and Orchard Toys have added an extremely fun variation to the game.  Now if you land on the black holes, you will have to spin the spinner to see which black holes you are going to get transported into it.

Orchards Toys Rockets and Comets

It is suitable for aged 4 plus which I think is about right.  It can be played with 2 – 4 players.

Inside the box, it contains:

  • 1 jigged playing board
  • 1 spinner
  • 4 astronaut playing pieces with stands
  • 1 dice
  • 1 instruction leaflet

The cards are made from thick recycled cardboard, are easy to hold, have smooth edges and are bright and colourful.  The rectangle playing board is very easy to piece together by both children.  The playing board is quite large so make sure you have plenty of table space.

The objective of the game is get your own astronaut up to the top and reach the alien on the moon by zooming up rockets, sliding down comets and getting sucked into black holes.  Both my children find the game is very fun especially with the black holes.

This game retails at £9.50 which we think is excellent value for money as it helps to develop counting skills.  I give it a rating of 5 stars out of 5.  It is a great family game!  I can see my children playing this regularly.

This is our short review video we made: https://youtu.be/T8osyoSqXBw

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

We will be playing this with Daddy P at the weekend, can’t wait. It looked great when I saw it at The Toy Fair, just as you would expect from Orchard Toys

This looks brilliant! We love a good snakes and ladders game and my son is learning about Space at school at the moment so this would be perfect!
