Orchard Toys Farmyard Friends Review

10 March 2014 by Eileen

Farmyard Friends is aimed at age 2+ for 1 – 4 players.  This is similar to Orchard Toys Post Box Game.  Both have the same concept about teaching matching and sorting for very young children.  But this in set you learn about the ducks, pigs, cows and horses.

Orchard Toys Farmyard Friends

Inside the box, there are:

  • 4 double-sided animal scene boards with 8 supports
  • 16 animal cards
  • 1 instruction leaflet

It is easy to assemble as the boards are thick and durable, which should make it long lasting.  The animal scene boards are very secure with two supports at the back.  They do take up a lot of room.  I would suggest to play this game on the floor or on a large table with lots of space as this game requires the children to move around to reach the matching scene boards.  The beautiful and colourfully illustrated animal scenes also help to teach the children to understand the animal’s habitats.  The animal cards are very cleverly draw in a fun way.  The cards are the right size for children to hold and place them into the hole in the scene boards.

This is our short video review: https://youtu.be/wyXXcavWiM0

There are two simple ways of playing the game where there is no competitive element.  Both of my children felt that they are a bit too old to play but they both still had fun making all sorts of animal noises, picking the cards and matching them to the right habitats.

I like this game as it helps to boost creativity, inspires imagination and promote independent play.  It also encourages recognising animals and their sounds.  There are a lot of benefits to this game.  I  believe that this will be a fun game for younger children or animal lovers!

I agree, as soon as I saw it at The Toy Fair, this game reminded me of our Postbox Game. Lovely idea

We love the Postbox game and this looks great with the animals. I think my daughter would like this in the not too distant future!

This looks brilliant – I can just envisage my 2 playing this game, giggling away at the noises they make!

Fab review, I love the animal sounds! Orchard Toys make such great games, I have my eye on this for Little Miss in a few months.

I don’t think I have ever seen a bad Orchard Toy game and this one looked fun when I saw it at the Toy Fair. I loved that you could make it more difficult for the older children.
