My husband and I always look for online deals before we plan any holiday and before buying any high value items like gadgets and electronics. Last year, we came across Bespoke Offers for the first time as I was looking for spa treatment and iTunes vouchers. At the time, they had a £10 iTunes voucher for only £5 – what a bargain! These offers are limited in quantity and once sold, they are gone. Recently, they had a half price cinema deal which unfortunately I forgot to buy until it was too late! So now, I always keep my eye on it and have signed on to their regular offer newsletter.
The website covers deals from food, wellness, home, electrical, fashion, travel and entertainment. To be honest, I did not know that Ryman sell tablets as I have always known them for stationery but not for selling electrical goods. I have received this GoClever Terra 90 Android 9″ Tablet 8GB with Keyboard and Case 8GB within a few days of ordering it. Love their quick delivery service.
When it comes to tablets, I have always been an Apple girl and have owned the iPad 2 and iPad 4. However, converting myself to use Android was not that difficult as I already own an Android phone. It didn’t take me long to familiarise myself. I did have this 7 inch Leliktec tablet before so this is definitely an upgrade for my children and husband. He used to own an Archos tablet.
Inside the box, there is a USB cable, home charger, OTG cable, car charger, protective case with keyboard, instructions and of course the tablet. This is a large 9″ touch screen with Dual Core processor which makes it very fast and responsive to the applications and games. I love having a large screen which makes everything much easier to see and it is also easier to type/swipe with my fat fingers. I am quite pleased that it responded well with the manufacturer’s screen cover left on the tablet. Having this already on the tablet saves me the hassle of buying one and fitting it myself. The dimensions of the tablet is 238 x 147 x 12 mm and it weighs 496 g which is lighter than my iPad 2! It comes with a black front and white back.
Turning it on, the user experience is instantly familiar if you have used Android phones or tablets before. Its resolution is 800 x 480 (aspect ratio 5:3) which is not too bad for the size and price of the tablet. Downloading is pretty quick and smooth with a host of popular apps such as YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Facebook, Twitter and Skype. The responsiveness makes for really good usability and is 10 times better than the Leliktec tablet we had.
Connecting to the internet on a train is not very easy if you are tethering from your phone. I will blame it on the Tesco network! Otherwise it is pretty much easy to get WIFI when not on the move.
There is an SD Card Reader which allows use of a microSD of up to 32GB to expand your available storage as well as to transfer files. We took a couple of personal photos of the kids and the quality was not great but acceptable. It wouldn’t be my first choice for taking photos to share online but for using the image as a background for the tablet or for any apps that require the camera, it will serve the purpose. The battery life will last about 3 to 4 hours on internet. It had to be charged quite quickly if we watched video from YouTube!
It also comes with a keyboard and cover. Personally, I had ditch it and use it on its own. I love the keyboard with soft touch and it is very responsive but it doesn’t work very well with its cover stand. It is too bulk for a train table. The cover itself is very dull, bulky and heavy and they could have chosen more attractive colours.
Having said that, I would rate this tablet 4 out of 5. It is a budget tablet but the user experience is good especially compared to our last two Android tablets we have owned. It would be wrong to compare against high-end tablets and this would make a good choice for those on a budget.
