Brian Cox’s Wonders of Life App Review

26 February 2014 by Eileen

Mr C is a big fan of science and he regularly watches Professor Brian Cox’s documentary shows on BBC.  I kind of watch it together with him and find that I am very drawn to his shows too.  The universe is always so fascinating and interesting.  It makes me hunger for more information.

Brian Cox’s Wonders of Life App Review

Early this February 13th 2014, HarperCollins Publishers launched Brian Cox’s Wonders of Life for £3.99. This app explore the majesty of nature in breath-taking 3D with Professor Brian Cox as your personal tour guide. There are over 30 3D creatures and habitats, over 2 hours of HD video and more than 1,000 crisply high-res images accompanied by expert commentary. The app seamlessly complements the Wonders of the Universe app (chosen by Apple as one of the best apps of 2012), adding in a tranche of additional information to Brian’s compendium of information on our solar system.

I downloaded it and am blow away by this breathtaking app.  It is very easy to navigate through the app, the topics are very interesting and the videos are superb.  It is easy to follow and understand.

The menu shows 6 different subjects: North America, Africa, Australasia, Sensory, Microscopic and Elements Processes. Within each subject, the topics covered range from the vast networks of subterranean freshwater caverns of the Yucatan peninsula to the Great White Sharks haunting the South Neptune Islands, from the Hermit Crabs of Christmas Island to the Red Kangaroo of Western Australia.

Brian Cox’s Wonders of Life App content

I find it easy to understand with his clear explanation in the videos and on the articles. My children are very keen to watch the video but they hate to wait for me to read the whole article. Please note that it requires wifi for the videos to play. There is also bonus content in this app – Brian‘s Tour which is free. You can either sign in via Facebook to access it or press “Skip” or “No Thanks” to continue after the Introduction. I am very impressed with this app, with its high quality video and content.  For this price, I am very happy to download it and read it whenever I am travelling.

Disclosure: We have download it free for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own. Images used with permission.

I loved the series so this might be something I will have to look for. The boy loves anything like this and I bet the videos are amazing!

My son would love this App – he has been learning all about space at school and I am sure he could learn lots more from this.

Love the look of this app, I think I’d like it for myself, never mind the kids! Any way of making science more accessible is fine by me.

It looks like an amazing app. Brian Cox annoys me, but his science is really accessible to children and people who don’t have a degree in Physics, it’s brilliant to bring Science to the masses 🙂
