Sainsbury Live Well For Less

29 October 2013 by Eileen

Food prices are always on the rise. Have you thought how to make your budget stretch? I love to cook for my family as you can be sure of what’s in there. There won’t be any nasty ingredients nor too much of the unhealthy ones. Sainsbury’s Live Well For Less have challenged a few parenting bloggers to share advice and savvy suggestions for using basics to create everyday food, without compromising on quality.

Catalonian Tuna Slow Cooked Fish

I made a slow cooked fish for a family of four. I used a packet of Basics Frozen White Fish Fillet, a tin of Basics Peeled Plum Tomatoes, Basics carrots and added some fresh cherry tomatoes (£1).

These are the ingredients:

  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 2 Carrots, peeled and slice in chunk
  • 1 bowl of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 packet of Basic frozen white fish fillet
  • 1 tin of peeled plum tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoon of Tomatoes purée
  • 1 pinch of Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 pinch of Oregano

It is a simple and nutritious dish. Fish is great for Omega 3. Experts generally recommend eating fish once or twice a week.  We served it with spaghetti. My family enjoyed and loved it!

This is our video on how to cook the slow cooked fish: https://youtu.be/Ta2z08OADnY

Disclosure: We have received voucher to buy the food to do this challenge.  I am a member of Markettiers4dc.

This looks great and so frugal. Beautifully presented, too. Thanks so much for linking it up with #recipeoftheweek x

I don’t like fish, but the rest of the family do! I must admit this does look tasty though.

I’m always challenging myself to cut the food bill and don’t so too bad but we do heavily supplement with home grown veg. Cheap tins of tomatoes are my best friend, I use them so much!

Your slow fish looks lovely, very moist and tasty. I will be trying this recipe. Good food doesn’t have to be expensive.

I wouldn’t have thought to serve fish with spaghetti, but looks like a good idea

This looks lovely-I’ve not thought of slow cooking fish before.

I’d never have thought to put fish with spaghetti, but it does look like it works really well 🙂
