My Munchkin Pink Bento Set

29 August 2013 by Eileen

One more week to go before my children go back to school! Have you started thinking about what to pack for their lunch box?  Do you find that you always run out of ideas? Munchkin has recently launched a Click Lock Bento Mealtime Set to make lunchtimes fun, fresh and organised. It keeps food separate and fresh so sandwiches, fruit, salad and other items can all be stored neatly and compact in one place. The unique Click Lock lid ensures a secure seal so food is kept fresh with no spills and no mess. It comes in three colours; blue, pink and green and is priced at £7.99. It is BPA-free, microwavable and freezer safe.

My Munchkin Pink Bento Set

The nine piece set comes with:

  1. Plastic spoon and fork which neatly stores inside the lid
  2. Two smaller removable containers with their own fruit/veg lids.
  3. A lid for the large compartment.

Today, I am practising a trial run before the school starts next Tuesday. This is my first time cooking a Japanese Bento and with limited ingredients, I have made up a Japanese Geisha Bento set. I had cooked Hainanese chicken rice and wrapped it with two fresh tomatoes in a sheet of cling film. After 10 minutes, I transferred the rice ball into the large compartment.

During this time, I also boiled some fresh broccoli and cooked some spicy meatballs. Later, I decorated it with carrots and added grapes and tomatoes in the small compartments. This is my Japanese Geisha. It is not perfect but it is good enough for me as a first timer!

I personally love the size of this Bento set. It is a good school meal portion for a child or it can fit sandwiches comfortably. Each compartment comes with it’s own lid and they are easy to open by a child. At the base, there is a place for you to write your child’s name. For our set, I already made them a label to stick on. The only thing we dislike is the fork and spoon. They are not easy to use to pick up the food. They are made from plastic and do not feel strong enough. Overall, the whole Bento set is very useful and cleverly designed. My daughter loves it and so do I.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

I’ve been a fan of bento boxes for a long time, would have loved one myself as a child as I didn’t like my food getting all mixed up and getting soggy!
