Jump Up and Join In – Lion’s Speedy Sauce App

17 July 2013 by Eileen

Recently, I reviewed Lion Speedy Sauce. It is a book written by Carrie and David Grant who are from the creators of hit CBeebies series Pop Shop. It is part of a brand new range of six energetic picture books, all about making music!  It is illustrated by Ailie Busby and the book is suitable for ages 3 to 7. It is published by Egmont Books Ltd.

This week, they have launched a brand new app, Jump Up and Join In! Based on their six energetic picture books, Juji is about making music, jumping up and joining in. It is aimed at children aged 4 to 8 years old, this interactive app has a huge range of musical activities for parents and children to enjoy together including an interactive e-book and a rip-roaring sing-along.

Jump Up and Join In

There are four sections in this app:

  1. Read it to Me: We have this book and it follows the CD verbatim. The app has a trick up it’s sleeve though as there are animations. The words will light up as they speak and the animals will move around.
  2. Read it Myself: This is where you learn to read the words.
  3. Musical Fun: In this section, you can choose to learn all about rhythm and strive for gold stars with the “Beats on the Bongos” game or practice singing with ‘Musical Stairs’. Ms C loves these as she loves trying to play the piano.
  4. Jump Up and Join In: In this section, it allows children, their parents and friends to enter the world of Carrie and David and become a star!

Firstly, I took a photo of Ms C and adjust her face to fit into the outline. It is so easy to zoom in and out of the photo to fit. You can even tilt the face to the left or right which is really handy as it’s always difficult getting child to stay still still for a photo. Next task is to choose one of the five outfits. They really love this and giggled all the way while they changed their clothing! As for the backdrop, you can use the standard scene provided or take a photo!

After completing that, it is time to sing! It is a short version of the Lion’s Speedy Sauce’ song, at around 45 seconds. Please forgive my terrible singing in this video!  Note, that to save the video into your library will take at least 3 – 5 minutes to get it save. I accidentally saved it without watching it and had to make both children wait – as you know, 5 minutes seems like a lifetime to children! https://youtu.be/u7_AGlv1D84

Overall, the children love this app and would love to play it again. They have so much fun creating the video! The app is priced at £2.49 and is available now on iPhone and iPad.  I rate this 5 stars out of 5.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
