Last month, I won a £20 gift voucher for The Keepsake Co through Monster Mummies. I ordered two Hand/Foot Print Mug from them at £10 each. I chose to pay by Paypal but they accept other forms of payment. The postage is very reasonable. Within 3 working days, I had received the mugs in a very well packaged box. The kits consist of: Mug, a pot of paint of your choice, small sponge and instructions. I didn’t purchase a pottery pen.
Mr K was the first to line up. He wanted to have 2 hand prints on the mug with red colour on left and blue colour on right hand. So I used the sponge and painted both of his hands. Mistake! By the time, I was painting his right hand, the left hand paint had dried up. I tried to put both hands on the mug but the print didn’t stick on the mug. I had to quickly wipe the paint off using a baby wipe. We also had a hard hard time removing the paint off Mr K’s hand as it had already dried. After a few scrubs, most of the paint did came off from his hand except the paint on his fingernails.
After a couple of minutes, we went through the whole process again. This time, I only painted one hand at a time and pressed his hand onto the mug quickly and firmly.
This time around, we got it right! It didn’t have a perfect print as his hand is too big for the mug. I think it looks great to have his palm captured on a mug! We did try his hand with the blue colour paint but it didn’t print out as what we want. I think the blue is too weak. I did stir the paint to make sure it was well mix. I will recommend avoiding the blue colour.
I also used the small pot of red paint for Ms C. She was not impressed as she hates to get her hands dirty. After the first hand print, I quickly used a wet wipe to remove the paint from her hands and it’s a lot easier before it dries. She was pleased. I tried to do her mug different from Mr K. Instead of two hand prints, I used her thumb and index finger to paint a flower. Again the blue paint was not very easy to stick on the mug. It didn’t show much of the thumb paint on the mug.
These are the finished products. I had to leave it for 4 hours to dry/set before I could bake it in the oven on 170 degree for 30 minutes. After baking, it can be used, washed and even put in the dishwasher.
Mr K was very excited and kept wanting to use them. It’s a very nice personalised mug! I would definitely recommend this for a friend with younger children and purchased a pottery pen too. I regret not buying one because the mugs look a bit empty. I would give this 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. It is also a great gift for grandparents too. They would love to see their little grandchild’s masterpiece I’m sure!
