For parents of children in primary school and kindergarten, life is pretty simple. Most of the stationery they need is provided by the school, and all you need to do is ship them off with a packed lunch. When they transition to secondary school, however, things change, and you need to buy their stationery and school supplies. Here are some things you should remember to buy.

National Stationery Week 2015
Did you know that this week is the National Stationery Week, starting from 27 April until 3 May 2015? It has been running for quite a few years and it aims to get people talking about stationery and writing more. As technology has become so advanced, it means less and less people write down notes and everything has gone digital.
I still remember I used to write my school projects by hand and cut out pictures from magazines or newspapers to stick it into my project. Times have changed and everything is typed up on a computer or tablet.
I still like to write whenever I can. I find that the more I write using stationery, the more I remember it. Writing helps improve memory but also great for those crosswords and sudokus!
Smiggle Open Birmingham Bullring
Last week, Smiggle opened in Birmingham Bullring and I was invited to see the showcase of their Christmas range. I have to be honest and say that I had not heard of Smiggle until two months ago and even while I was in Singapore for holiday.
STABILO Early Writers Packs
Both of my children have started their Reception and Year 1. As a parent, I feel that it is very important that both children are able to develop their fine motor skills by getting them the right stationery to assist their writing. I am always very worried for Ms C as she grips her pens and pencils in an unusual way. She is unable to hold a pen like a tripod. In fact, she is gripping the pencil in between her middle finger and ring finger. It does look very odd.
APPen: Colour, Play, Learn
APPen is a brand new line of kids electronic toys and accessories from GPTech, that allows children to enjoy learning, writing and colouring on a tablet. The app is compatible with the majority of android and iOS tablets. Recently, I did have issues when I updated to the latest iOS7 release which caused the app to stop working. So I had to go to Settings, click Privacy, select Microphone and then set the APPen to YES. The app is free to download and it can be used with or without the APPen. The APPen does not require batteries; simply plug it in via the headphone socket of any compatible tablet.
