Being a parent for almost seven years, I have often found brown patches on the bathmat after someone earlier was getting changed while sitting there. Each time, I have to name and shame one of my children and keep telling them how to clean themselves after going to the toilet.
In fact according to Andrex®, 34% of parents rate teaching their children how to be clean after going to the toilet as the most difficult parenting task, beating teaching them to brush teeth (15%), holding cutlery (5%) and blowing their nose (3%). So I am not the only one facing the same problem. Therefore Andrex® wants to start a conversation around what being clean really means and demonstrate that how we clean and care for our intimate areas can make a huge difference, not only to our physical wellbeing but to how good and confident we really feel. It’s done this by creating the Andrex® Clean Routine and this is the guide.
We were given Andrex® Clean challenge to teach all of the family about the importance of being clean and the correct way to clean themselves after going to the toilet. We were delighted to take this on and were given a week to do this challenge.
We started off with a star chart for Mr K and Ms C. As for Mr C and I, I have to say that we are quite good on that as do all the steps routinely! I am a big fan of moist toilet tissue! In fact, I have one box of toilet wipes in all our bathrooms. Also taking wet wipes to public toilets is a must! When we run out of toilet wipes, we will use baby wipes for our children and it will be disposed of in the bin. Baby wipes will not breakdown and will block the sewage.
I went through the step by step with them and gave them the demonstration. Each time they go to the toilet I watch them closely to ensure they are doing right, especially for Ms C. It is quite a common mistake for girls to wipe back to front which can cause urine infection. So I have been reminding Ms C to go from front to back.
After one week of challenge, so far so good. There have been no brown stains on my bath mat and both children remember the five step rules, especially front to back and no re-folding of the toilet paper. We have two clean children with two happy parents. I would definitely recommend using moist toilet tissue as you will feel fresher and cleaner!
