Brainbox recently launched a competition, called The Young Games Inventor of the Year. They are on the lookout for the next young games inventors and in particular for any great board game ideas they might have! They invite entries into the Young Games Inventor competition, where prizes include winning your height in BrainBox games and the chance to see your game made up.
You can find out more about the competition (which includes a fun worksheet and practical ‘How To’ guide for each entrant) at http://www.brainbox.co.uk/ygi.
So if your children (under 16) love invention or love making their own games, this is a great opportunity to turn their ideas into reality. It’s a chance for children to use their natural flair for invention to come up with a new board game – with the winner having their game made by the team here at the Green Board Game Company. The finished article might even be stocked at Ocado!
The competition ends on midnight on Sunday September 21st, with the winners announced on Monday October 6. Entries are very simple! Remember to make up your board game and take a few photos, then enter your details via the online form. It is that simple!
This is Mr K’s board game and it is called Mummy Tummy. Before your mind starts to wander, it wasn’t inspired by my tummy. No, this game is set in the Egyptian Pharaoh era. It has a King Tut with a pyramid body (that is his tummy).
This game is for 2 – 6 players aged 3 to 8 years old. The objective of the game is to be the first one to reach King Tut. It comes with a dice and 6 counters. The dice has two special features. It only has numbers 1 to 4 and has a side for “Miss a Turn” and “Stay” (stay on the spot but not miss a turn). The counters are in the form of a pyramid, mummy, camel, Anubis, Horus and sand.
Of course, this can made into a strategy game with lots of question cards on Egyptian history etc. However, this game was invented by Mr K who is only six years old. But I think he has done a really good job at coming up with the theme and ideas.
Disclosure: We have received a game for mentioning the competition.
