The lucky blogger winner will receive a voucher worth £200 to the supermarket of their choice and be invited to receive their award at the prestigious British Turkey Awards at The Savoy, London on September 25th 2014. The two lucky runner’s up will receive £50 worth of supermarket vouchers. The closing date is 22 August 2014.
The theme for the competition is ‘Arabian Nights’. So I have asked a couple of friends for advice as I have not tried cooking Arabian food before. They suggested to cook turkey tagine using a Pyrex slow cooker.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Rapeseed oil (Red Tractor)
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 3 garlic cloves
- 50g toasted almonds flaked
- 1 onion
- 1 ready-roasted red peppers (Red Tractor)
- 300ml chicken stock
- 400g a tin of chopped tomatoes
- 400g a tin of chickpeas
- 400g a packet of chopped turkey mini fillets (Red Tractor)
- Fresh coriander
Method:
- Toasted the almonds flaked in the oven for 10 min in 200c.
- Chopped the red peppers into 2 cm by 2 cm and oven it for 15 min in 200c.
- Heat the rapeseed oil and fry the onion and garlic for 5 minutes.
- Add the ground coriander, cinnamon and turkey and fry for 3 minutes.
- Add toasted peppers, chopped tomatoes, chickpeas into the mixture.
- Simmer in the slow cooker for 10 – 20 minutes.
- Mix in the almonds and coriander before serving.
I served the dish with rice. It is flavoursome and it didn’t require any additional seasoning. The almond flakes give it nice crunchy taste in the sauce. Also this is great for younger children as it is not spicy at all.
