Continuing our A – Z summer activities, yesterday was the letter G so we are over a quarter of the way. As I mentioned on the letter F post, my paternal grandma had passed away. She was the last of my parents’ parents and was over 90 years old. Now we have only three generations in my family. It is such a shame that my children have not seen their great grandma for two years now – since the last time we were in Singapore. Also we won’t be able to rush back to Singapore in time for her funeral as Chinese funeral lasts for 5-7 days.
G for Grieve for Grandma
When I mentioned to my children about their great grandma, both had no clue who she was as they were too young when they first met her two years ago. So I explained that she had played a big part in my life when I was young. I was frequently having sleepovers at her place with my cousins. She always loved to cook and in large quantities – there were always 2nd or 3rd helpings! She would often give us money to buy snacks from the shop too. I am glad that she passed peacefully and will join her son and husband.
Both of my children love to dig and plant seeds. Early last month, we had planted some pea seeds and now they have grown into a large plant with pea pods. To be honest I am not very green fingered but by getting my children to join in allows us to spend more quality family time together. They even have their own special garden corner for them to grow their own flowers or plants!
G for the Girl with a Pearl
One of their school’s summer bucket list is to write a story, Mr K decided to name his story “The Girl with a Pearl”. The story begins once upon a time where the girl found a pearl inside an oyster and one day it went missing. So who took it? Only Mr K knows.
G for Girls about Town
This is a fashion designer kit book from Meadow where it contains stickers, felt tip pens, sketch models and dogs. Do look out for our review.
G for Glutinous Rice
One of Mr K’s favourite desserts is peanut glutinous rice ball/tang yuen. This is the recipe. It is so simple to make and best to eat while hot!
G for Gold Stars
Last month, I went to attend Britmums and met the rep of Parragon. We were given a Gold Stars Key Stage 1 Mathematics workbook to take part in the Summer with Gold Stars challenge.
Gold Stars is Parragon Book’s premium range of educational activity workbooks, designed to reflect the national curriculum. They offer learning support from pre-school through to Key Stage 2.
We are supposed to complete a page a day but Ms C got hooked and wanted to do more. I am so pleased that she enjoying practising her maths and we had to stop her after doing more than 10 pages. She is clearly very confident and loves her maths. She did need plenty of help from us to explain the method and she used her wooden abacus to assist her adding and taking away. The book started off at quite a simple level then progressively gets more difficult. Each page comes with big and beautiful illustrations which aid the children in their calculations.
I am so pleased that she completed the whole book in no time and by awarding her with a gold star on each page was a great reward that made her so happy too!
Gold Stars are available nationwide from Sainsbury’s, WHSmith, Morrisons, Wilkinson and other good retailers.
G for Golf
Another nice weather but we all woke up quite late. So both children decided to play golf with Mr C while I cooked lunch. Both children were so happy.
G for Gruffalo
At bedtime, instead of reading the Gruffulo book to them. I questioned them and let them tell me the story instead. Mr K was able to remember most of it and was able to tell the whole storyline. A few years ago, we watched the live stage show too and had our books signed by Axel Scheffler.
Tomorrow is letter H. Do follow us and see what we up too! Mr K already thinking of riding a horse!
