Easy Meal with ilumi

25 July 2013 by Eileen

ilumi is a County Durham food company who has been cooking up nut-, gluten- and milk-free foods for nearly a decade. Their team of chefs and nutritionists combine the allergy-friendly ingredients to create delicious meals. A fellow blogger, Laura CYMFT, kindly offered me a chance to test these beautiful microwave food pouches. ilumi kindly sent me two packets of Yellow Basmati Rice and two packets of Aromatic Thai Red Chicken Curry for us to review.

Easy Meal with ilumi It comes in a microwaveable pouch. Before you place it in the microwave, massage the pouch and tear the top off. It only takes 1 minute to heat up the rice and 2 minutes for the chicken. It can even be eaten cold.

The Thai chicken curry is sweet and mildly spicy. This will definitely suit younger children and above. Both my children and I enjoyed it. Even though it was free from nuts/gluten/milk, it does not lack anything in the taste department. The curry gravy smells great and tastes superb, with a real depth of flavour. The chicken meat is soft and tender, and there were no bones or gristly bits. The rice is soft, fragrant and complements the curry.

The only downside is the size of the portion of the chicken.  Each packet only comes with one piece of thigh meat or equivalent. These four packets (two rice and two curries) were shared between my two children and myself. Overall these are quick, easy meals and delicious pouches that cooks in a seconds. It is definitely great for anyone. I rate this 4 stars out of 5.

Disclosure: We received the samples for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

Ooo handy to know. I can’t eat Gluten.. I think that’s what triggers my reflux 🙁 But these food products sound right up my street. I really want to try them I just need to invest in a microwave because mine has just broke! Thanks for sharing the review. 🙂
