NumBugz is a great numbers travel game that can be played in a number of different ways wherever you are. This is the second game invented by the husband and wife team, Ian and Lisa from the original PLYT game. If you have not heard about PLYT game, then read my review of this addictive and challenging numeracy game.
NumBugz is basically a mathematics game in a travel size form. It comes with a small Bugz bag containing 150 tiles (6 sets of 25 tiles), 30 second timer and instructions. One side of the tile has a unique Bugz and the other side is numbered from 1 to 12 and there are six PLYT tiles (can be zero or 13). The tiles are well made with thick cardboard with no sharp edges which should last for a long time. They are quite small so you do need to be careful not to lose any.
There are many ways of playing this NumBugz game. The instructions only provide one game and the other game variations can be found on their website with helpful how to play videos.
There are seven games to be play using NumBugz: Colonyz, Legionz, 25z, SumBugz, Sequenz, Memorize and Pairz.
Colonyz is a calculation game that requires you to try to use different calculation methods to link and get rid of your tiles. When we first started to play, it was quite complicated remembering which calculation method we were using but once you understand the rules, it is very easy. I love that this game can play together as a family with different mathematics abilities. My eight year old daughter does often need our help to give her clues but it’s a great way to get her thinking.
Legionz is a strategy game that encourages players to think ahead and out manoeuvre their opponents. The 25z is a quick fun game of probability and bluff that is similar to Black Jack. SumBugz is a quick and fun guessing game. Sequenz is a quick game to help young players understand number sequences. Memorize is a game to use your memory skills to be the first to collect your complete set of Bugz. Pairz is a matching memory game.
NumBugz is great as a travel game as it also helps children build their confidence and to improve their numeracy. It can be played many times over and there is flexibility for you to make up your own game/rules. I would definitely recommend this game. It is available to buy on their PYLT website or Amazon.
