Dobble Card Game Review

20 October 2013 by Eileen

Dobble is a fast and furious family card game for 2 – 8 players aged 6 and above that can be played by anyone, regardless of age and interests. It consists of 55 cards, with 8 symbols per card.  The cards are thin and easy to hold. The symbols come in varies sizes which make it quite hard to spot sometimes, especially the smaller ones, which makes this game so interesting! The symbols are very cute and bright.

Dobble Card Game

In Dobble, players compete with each other to find the one matching symbol between one card and another.  Every card is unique and has only one symbol in common with any other card in the deck.  The match can be difficult to spot as the size and positioning of the symbols can vary on each card.  Once a player finds the match, they shout it out before other players and either takes the card or places it somewhere else, depending on which mini-game they are playing.

Dobble has 5 mini-games:

  • Fill the Well
  • The Towering Inferno
  • Hot Potato
  • Catch them all
  • The Poisoned Gift

The mini games are incredibly easy to play. Players must have a keen eye and lightning reactions in order to be the first to spot the matching symbols. We especially love to play Hot Potato because we keep throwing it to our opponents! As the game is based on reactions and visual perception, rather than knowledge or strategy, it makes a great fun family game. Mr K is turning 6 in November and he was able to spot many before we did.

The deck of cards comes well protected inside a small circular tin to keep them safe and makes Dobble the perfect travel game you can take anywhere as it fits in your pocket! One word of caution though: the lid on our tin is quite loose so we’ve had to secure it with elastic bands, though this may be unique to our sample. Even though the mini games are quick to complete, it is fun and keeps us wanting to play more!  This is great as a Christmas stocking filler! This game can be purchase at all good toy stores, as well as nationwide retailers such as John Lewis, Ebay and Amazon. For more information visit Esdevium Games website.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own. We have included an Amazon affiliate link to the product. If you click on this and buy, we may earn a small commission.
