The World Barbie Dreamtopia & App Review

7 November 2016 by Eileen

We would love to introduce you to the world of Barbie Dreamtopia which is a magical make-believe world created by Chelsea, Barbie’s six year old youngest sister.  Like many girls, Chelsea really looks up to her sister, and every adventure features Barbie as either a princess, a fairy, or a mermaid from a different land that guides Chelsea and her young pup Honey on a new experience.

Earlier this July, a brand new Barbie Dreamtopia movie special was aired on Tiny Pop.  Did your children watch it?  The show joins Barbie, her younger sister Chelsea and her pup Honey on a magical new adventure, telling the origins story of the land of Dreamtopia!  Has your child ever imagined she/he could fly with Fairies whose wings sprinkle emeralds and diamonds as she/he flutters by? Or ride the tallest Roller Coaster you’ve ever seen, up in the sky on a Rainbow? To further your children’s storytelling, there are a range of toys and the Barbie Dreamtopia – Magical Hair app to help them along!

To help Ms C create her Dreamtopia, we have received the Barbie Rainbow Cove Light Show Princess, Barbie Princess, Horse & Carriage and a Fire Kids Edition tablet to review the app.

Watch our video review and check out the toys and app in more detail! https://youtu.be/cLg3QzmjImg

This Barbie Rainbow Cove Light Show Princess has a gem on her bodice that comes to life with beautiful rainbow light and sound shows!  Simply push the gem and watch as colourful rainbow light and sound shows light up Barbie’s princess dress and long, brightly pink coloured silky ponytail for rainbow fun.  Ms C is fascinated and loves the rainbow light shining through especially when as she likes to play in a dimly lit room.  The doll is unable to stand on its own and is not heavy to hold to play.  It takes 3 cell batteries which are included.

Next we have the Barbie rainbow princess doll, a colourful open-air carriage and gorgeous unicorn set!  Now Barbie can ride through a kingdom of rainbows in this carriage and unicorn!  The carriage requires minimal assembly except for the foot-well and it is ready to use.  It comes with rolling wheels and a pretty dome that can be opened or closed to play two ways!  To close the dome, it takes a while to get it clip properly.  It has room to seat two Barbie dolls.

The unicorn is brightly coloured and very well made. It can be easily attached or detached from the decorated purple bridle and blue beaded reins.  Ms C loves the unicorn and keeps detaching her from the carriage to play.  She did find the carriage too big for her room to play as it occupies plenty of floor space.  She much prefers to have Barbie ride the unicorn!

Ms C loves these two additional toys to explore her imagination especially with the unicorn as they can fly to any destination and of course do magic!

To test out the Barbie Dreamtopia – Magical Hair app, we first have to download the free app via iTunes or Google Play.  There are in-app purchases to open up more characters and world.  This free version only comes with two worlds to play with, one character – Chelsea, limited hair style tools and an access to the photo booth to view the hair style you have create. Ms C enjoys the game especially as she gets to put a lot of hair accessories onto Chelsea’s hair, but she does feel that she is very restricted by the limited number of tools that she can use. I am not sure if it is worth to buy the in-app purchases bundle as it may not be something she will play with again and again.  She definitely loves the concept of game and it complements the other paid for beauty salon apps hence I am very unsure of getting them. I do like this app as it encourages your child to be bolder in designing hair and to get creative to experiment different colours and styles.  Overall it is a good app with limitation.
