This coming Mother’s day (15th March 2015), why not try to make a home-made card with your children. It is fun and also a lovely personal touch. Last week, while I was tidying my drawer I found an old magazine (Practical Parenting & Pregnancy) from March 2013. Flipping through the magazine, I found this Let’s Make section where they show how to make a tulip card. This craft idea is from Little Children’s Book of Things to Do from Usborne.
To make this card, you will need:
- Colour papers
- Thick card and envelopes
- Glue/double sided tape
- Scissors
Steps:
- In the book, it suggests to draw a flower with three petals on a piece of coloured paper and cut it out. I find that folding the paper into half and drawing 1.5 petals makes the flower more balanced than free hand drawing.
- Once the flower is cut out, fold down the middle of each petal. Then make another fold between each petal to make a flower shape.
- Fold a long piece of green paper in half and cut a thin leaf shape against the fold.
- Cut a stem from the green paper. I have omitted the flower’s stamens on this but if you would like to add this, using the orange paper, cut three small strips with points at one end to make the flower’s stamens.
- Paste the petals, stem and leaves on the card.
This looks great for a mother’s day card or for anyone who loves tulips like me! Also this is great for spring craft too!
