Tegu Magnetic Wooden Blocks Review

24 February 2015 by Eileen 4 Comments

Recently through Toyella, a multi-award winning toy retailer, I found these fascinating magnetic wooden blocks called Tegu. Both my children are fascinated with constructing things and making different type of models so this is really ideal for them. Tegu is taking constructing traditional buildings to a new level of fun and excitement! With its embedded invisible magnets inside the hardwood blocks, building can be so engaging and delightful.

The Tegu ‘Jungle’ sets come in 14, 24 and 42 piece in four different colours. We have the 24 piece set which comes with 6 unique magnetic shapes:

  • 4 square cubes
  • 4 rectangle cuboids
  • 6 cm flat block x 4
  • 12 cm flat block x6
  • 24 cm flat block x4
  • 2 rhombus

The Tegu blocks are made from responsibly sourced Honduran hardwoods and the coatings are water-based and non-toxic which is safe for children. This set is suitable from aged 1 onwards and with the combination of the wood and magnets means there is no limit to what children or adults can create.

During half term last week, we spent some time at home doing crafting and also had plenty of chances to play with the set. I set both children a task to come up with their own creations using the blocks provided. Initially, both my children were quite frustrated as they couldn’t get to grips of placing them in the correct positions for the magnets to attract with one another. Either they were trying to stick them together where there were no magnets or they were repelling each other if they had them the wrong way around. However, they quickly learnt from their mistakes and figured out how to rotate and position them correctly.

These are what they created. They made a spaceship, robot, sandwich and even a toilet!

Both my children enjoyed playing with the set and it not only boosts their imagination, it also helps them to be creative, demonstrate problem solving and fine motor skills too. This set is very well made with good quality wooden blocks that will lasts for a long time. Currently, its RRP is £49.99.

I enjoyed looking through their website as they stock good quality, unique and beautiful toys, games and gifts from around the globe that are not widely available in the UK. Their toys are aimed at children up to 12 years old and focus on gifts that promote traditional play and interaction. They also offer free UK delivery and will ship gifts worldwide.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
