Have you taken up the 200-night trial period for any Simba mattress topper, bed and mattress in your own home? Simba are confident that you will love your purchase after just one night! And yes, we love it too! In fact, we are no strangers to the Simba mattress as my son is sleeping on one too.
It is common knowledge that having a good night’s sleep is crucial for your physical and mental well-being, especially as we spend about a third of our lives in bed! That is why buying a good quality mattress is one of the most important purchases you will make. But how do you choose? Spring or foam?
Simba has cleverly combined the best of both worlds with its materials, multiple layers of both springs and foam, for optimum comfort, support and longevity. Their ground-breaking Hybrid® mattress is a cross between a sprung mattress and a foam mattress!
They offer free next-day delivery for all their mattresses and I received this Simba Hybrid® Original double mattress packaged neatly in a box. It is a heavy box but easy to transport in most cars or carry along narrow corridors before it is rolled out flat to its full size!
Normally I would have taken the box to the upstairs bedroom to unpack, but I wanted to make a video without my children disturbing me, so I opened the mattress in our living room instead.
This British brand Simba makes a range of sizes: Single, Small Double, Double, King, Super King, European Single, European Double and European Queen. Please check and measure your bed frame before buying it. I have opted for the UK double mattress for our daughter.
This UK double mattress measures 135cm in width by 190cm in length by 25cm in depth. It features 2,500 Aerocoil® micro springs across nine support zones that are made from titanium alloy. When we sleep on it, we cannot feel any springs at all. Unlike those cheap spring mattresses where you can feel every spring on your body!
This mattress in a box is very easy to unpack by one person. Once I had opened the box, I pulled out the rolled-up mattress and placed it on the floor. Then I used scissors to cut along the dotted scissor marklines on the plastic cover. After unwrapping, I cut open the plastic cover and let it rest for 36 hours before placing it onto the bed frame with my husband’s help. The mattress needs six hours to reflate, and up to 72 hours to regain its full shape. They do reassure you that you can sleep on it from day one though.
In this video, I show you how I unwrapped the mattress and what I think about it: https://youtu.be/Hfh19W6pQIE
The mattress had a slight smell, but once aired for a couple of hours, it was totally normal after that. I love that the knitted breathable cover can be removed for washing or replacing if necessary. The stitching on the cover is brilliant and it is very nicely finished all around. There is not a loose thread in sight, no lumpiness and no hard/stiff edges at all. It is made to a high standard. It is soft, very breathable and the zip is very well-made.
Once I unzipped the soft cover, it revealed the four hidden layers, which are the: Simbatex® foam comfort layer, Aerocoil® micro spring support layer, high-density foam and super-supportive base.
As the weather is warming up, Simba mattresses do not overheat. My daughter likes to sleep with all windows closed in Spring/Summer time. She has not felt too hot in bed and has been sleeping well on her Simba. Simba uses an open-cell Simbatex® foam to ensure that you get the best possible level of cooling airflow by filtering heat away.
The spring layer is very well hidden and is very supportive. It provides the right support and pressure relief on the body. The mattress does not require flipping, but you should rotate it to extend its life. Even though the mattress was quite heavy, I was able to rotate it easily by using the handles on the side of the mattress by myself.
I like that their mattresses are made in the UK with recyclable materials sourced from this country. Simba is a B Corp and it commits to carbon-neutral delivery. Also, everything is recyclable. Their damp-proof plastic wrap packaging can be recycled at a large supermarket. They also offer convenient mattress recycling for any brand or size, if you have any.
Overall, my daughter loves her medium firm mattress and has had many good nights’ sleep. The mattress gives her the right support and there is no sign of sinkage. It is very comfy. And, best of all, there is a 10-year guarantee on each Simba mattress! I would recommend it to people who like medium firm, side and front sleepers, back pain sufferers, and people who often get hot at night.
