What’s Dating your Kitchen? And What you Can Do About It

6 February 2023 by Eileen

Does your kitchen look like it’s straight from the 70s? If so, you have come to the right place. Renovating your kitchen from scratch can be overwhelming, to say the least, but this guide will help you to make the right changes so you can turn things around without any stress.

What’s Dating your Kitchen And What you Can Do About It

Drab Colours

Some colours are just not modern at all. If your entire kitchen is painted in colours that are dated then you need to give it a fresh coat of paint. The trend in this day and age is for you to try and get your kitchen looking lighter and brighter. Neutral colours are very good here, not to mention that they can also make the room look way bigger. Grey and white are very good, not to mention that creams and browns are great alternatives. If you plan on selling your home then neutral tones will really work in your favour, so be mindful of this if you can.

Old Accessories

Cracked blinds, dirty curtains and tarnished cabinet handles will all work against you. It doesn’t matter how small the accent colour is either, because the condition will impact the rest of the kitchen and it will make everything look drab. Cleaning or even replacing these items will help you to amp appeal in no time.

Window Treatments

If you know that your window treatments are very old then you need to try and replace them. Opt for ones that let in a lot more light. Sheer shades are ideal here, not to mention that light-coloured curtains can work in your favour here as well.

Worn Worktops

If you want to bring your kitchen into this century then another thing you can do would be for you to replace the worktops. Granite worktops are now easier than ever to come by and you would be surprised at how much they could transform your space. If your worktops are very old then opting for something like granite is a very good idea.

Cabinet Hardware

Look at the hardware you have right now. Does it look old and worn out? If so, then now is the time for you to make a change. It may be that you install some new knobs, hinges or pulls. When you do this, you will soon find that you can dramatically refresh any old cabinetry you may have. Depending on the hardware you choose, you may find that you can alter the style of your kitchen this way. If you have some switch or outlet covers then don’t be afraid to replace them too. This will help you to update your kitchen in no time at all, not to mention that it is very affordable so keep that in mind if you are on a budget. It could make all of the difference to your space.

So why not try some of the above tips for yourself today, to see what works for your home? You never know, you might end up adding value to your home as a result.
