Online Cooking with BBC Maestro

14 February 2023 by Eileen

Want to learn a new skill from an expert or looking for ways to improve yourself in the comfort of your own home? For me, my 2023 new year resolution goal is to learn how to bake good bread. The very basic thing in life that I always wanted to achieve. I used to do lots of home bakes but have been putting them on hold for a long time as my bakes were uninspiring and I didn’t know how to take them to the next level. I am so thrilled to discover the BBC Maestro courses.

Online Cooking with BBC Maestro

BBC Maestro offers a range of online cooking classes from the guidance of some of the world’s top chefs to help beginners, like myself, grow our confidence in the kitchen with their easy-to-follow yet comprehensive lessons detailing every step of each recipe. Besides cooking classes, they also offer a wide range of courses, like writing poetry, filmmaking, music productions, storytelling, business success and many more. You can either buy a single course of your choice with lifetime access or all courses pass for one year, where you can learn all the courses they are offering! You can pick up not just one but many more skills!

Out of the online cooking classes, like vegetarian recipes and Indian cooking lessons, I have picked the bread-making class by French baker and chef Richard Bertinet. Richard is a renowned Breton baker, teacher and author who is based in Bath, Somerset. He was acclaimed as a food champion by the BBC in 2010.

In his bread-making course, there are 26 video lessons plus downloadable course notes that cover everything from baking a beautiful brioche to an in-depth guide to sourdough. In the videos, he will show you the basic foundations of the dough and step-by-step recipes for making a variety of mouth-watering breads. Also on his course notes, which are formatted like a cookbook, you will find his cooking essentials: what equipment you will need, some fascinating insights into his life and recipes.

I love how the lessons break down into small sections. It is easy to access each individual video with subtitles. The videos are very well made with good visuals and allow me to follow them at my own pace. I can always rewatch again and again, and refer back to his course notes. Watching the videos are so satisfying and convenient too. I would recommend this course, especially if you are a beginner baker! Can’t wait to start kneading and baking bread!

Now one of you will get a chance to win a gift voucher worth £80 to redeem on any course via BBC Maestro! Or you can gift it to your loved ones to get them learning! So good luck and enter through Gleam! Also, remember to check out the rest of my giveaways!

Disclosure: We received the gift voucher to redeem a course for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own. Images from BBC Maestro website and used with permission.
