This Topix from Cheatwell Games is a new updated version of the game where you race against the clock to list as many things as you can that are related to your chosen topic. This game is suitable for ages 12 and above, for two players/teams or more. It is best to be played as individuals, but it can also be played as a team game. The ideal number is four players or teams.
It comes with a small square playing board, 54 double-sided topic tiles (blue and red), 4 playing counters, 1 double-sided Topix answer pad, 4 pencils, a sand timer and instructions. The blue topics are broader and suit younger players, whilst red topics are, in general, more challenging. If you are playing with younger players, you may wish to use just the blue tiles for the entire game.
The objective of the game is to be the first/fastest player or team to reach the Finish square by finding as many examples are you can for your given topic.
To play the game, each player/team takes a topic tile and reveals the topic. Write the topic, letter and your name or team name on the answer pad. Make sure you write it clearly, so everyone can read it.
When everybody is ready, start the timer and list as many answers as you can. For example, if you have the blue topic “Found in a hospital”, and your letter is S. In 30 seconds, write down things you can find in the hospital that start with S, like scrub nurse, sanitiser, scalpel, scissors, sheets, soap etc.
When the time is up, draw a line under your lists and pass your Topix answer sheet to the player on your left. In this way, you will receive a new topic and letter from the player on your right.
Now, start the timer again and try to find more examples for the new topic. Remember you will not score any points for things already written down by your rivals! Play repeats in this manner, passing the Topix sheets to the left until all players have attempted each of the topics.
Once everyone has attempted all the topics in play, players/teams take it in turns to read out and score the completed sheets, judging whether examples are acceptable or not. For example, if someone wrote wet deer, wet unicorn for animals with horns, letter starting with W. It shouldn’t be accepted.
Now total the score and move your playing pieces. If you landed on the Star space, you can choose the letter and coloured tile. If you land on a red space with a letter, you have to pick a red tile and your topic letter will be the letter printed on the playing board. Same as the blue space. To win, be the first player/team to reach the finishing line.
This is such a fast pace and fun game. It can get very competitive when playing in teams. This game really tests your memory to think fast and write fast too. It is a great party game to get everyone involved. This Topix game is available from Amazon.
