Top Tips for Home Solar Panels

18 November 2021 by Eileen Leave a Comment

As more American homeowners convert to solar energy, you are probably considering it for your property.

Using a completely renewable energy source and the ability to reduce your electricity bills to almost nothing once your home solar panels are paid for feels like an easy decision.

It may indeed be, but there are some considerations to make before you go ahead and transform your home’s power supply.

Top tips for home solar panels

How do home solar power systems work?

In simple terms, home solar panels transform the sun’s rays into a form of electricity your home appliances can use to function.

Solar is a completely renewable form of energy – meaning it does not drain the resource (the sun) in order to work. There are also no harmful by products to the earth, or to humans.

This makes it completely green, and much better for the earth than using fossil fuels that produce harmful greenhouse gases.

What do you need in your home?

People often think of home solar energy systems as being all about the panels. They are the most visible element, but a fully functional system needs a few other components to produce safe, consumable electricity.

An inverter containing photovoltaic modules plays host to the solar cells that convert AC voltage from the sunlight into DC voltage that your home’s appliances can run on.

Batteries are also required to store surplus energy. Otherwise referred to as ‘solar battery storage’, batteries enable your home to continue running even when the sun is not shining.

In the panels themselves, there is a network of so-called PV cells that capture the sun’s rays.

Why switch to solar energy?

Beneath the headlines, there are some compelling reasons to switch to solar energy. New advances and market competition has meant the solar panel cost to consumers has come down to be much more affordable in recent years.

Another piece of good news is that you do not need to ask for planning permission to install your system. There are some guidelines to follow for safe, respectful installation, but outside of that the bureaucracy is minimal.

You will also add value to your home since solar energy is an attractive proposition to many potential buyers. Estimates vary by state, but as an approximate guide you can expect to add at least $10,000 – $25,000 to the value of your property with home solar panels.

For balance

Despite the benefits, there are considerations to make before you go ahead with solar. Search for solar power companies near me to find a professional to help you and guide the process.

This can also help bring solar panel cost down. Experts will know exactly how many panels you need and can help guide you on localized incentive schemes to fund your investment.

It’s a wrap

Congratulations on considering solar energy for your home. By doing so you will save yourself significant money in 5-10 years, as well as reducing your carbon footprint to help the planet. It’s a genuine win-win situation and becomes more so as solar technology improves even further.
