Whether you are a watch lover or collector, you will know that automatic watches benefit from being used rather than being left idle as they will slow down and stop eventually! This is where watch winders come to the rescue to prevent your favourite watch from deteriorating.
Firstly, what does a watch winder do? It works by mimicking the movement of a human wrist and this keeps the watch mechanism lubricated and operating as it should. I had lost two very expensive watches (both watches cost me over $200 Singapore dollars each 25 years ago) due to letting them sit idle for ages. I was unable to get them to work again! How I wish I had this watch winder back then! As a watch lover, I know that it is so important to keep the watch functioning optimally to prolong its life!
Anyway, here I have this smart looking Barrington single watch winder in blue colour! They have a variety of gorgeous colours, like orange, yellow and red, in a sleek and minimalist design. They look great on any desk, shelf, or bedside table.
If you add another automatic watch to your collection, you can add another watch winder (or more) by connecting together via the supplied cable and powered from one AC power source!
This stylish watch winder measures 11.5 cm in width by 12cm in height by 16 cm in deep. It is made from MDF with a smooth gloss finish. It can be operated either by AC mains (International adapter with fittings for UK, EU and US plugs) or two AA batteries which are not included. Personally, I would prefer to operate via mains as I won’t remember to check if the LED lights double blink when battery power is low.
It features an ultra-quiet Japanese motor which is ever so quiet. There are three settings for rotation direction, which is either clockwise, or counter-clockwise, or alternating between the two. It comes with 650, 750, 850, 1000 or 1950 turns per day (TPD) settings to suit any weight of watch.
This cycle will continue for 12 hours and then stop for 12 hours before the cycle begins again. Both dials are slightly tight to turn through the notches but you just need a bit of strength.
You can choose between a flex (suitable for watches with a strap/bracelet circumference of 14 cm to 20 cm) or a standard cushion (suitable for watches with a strap/bracelet circumference of 19 cm to 24 cm). I have the flex cushion. To insert your watch, you would need to pinch the ears of the cushion both to release and re-insert the cuff into the winder. It is that easy to operate.
A watch winder might not be the first thing you think of when you buy a new watch but in my opinion, they are the perfect partnership to keep your watch working optimally! It’s also nice to display your watch at the same time.
This Barrington single watch winder will make such a great gift for any watch enthusiast who has everything, but still deserves a bit more!
