When you’re feeling run down, it sucks. You feel achy and you sneeze a lot, you might even be coughing. Given the pandemic we’re in right now, any of the above signs is never good but if you can’t seem to get away from it and it’s all year around, you might need to consider whether it’s your environment that’s making you feel bad. There is more than enough awareness out there about the importance of a healthy environment, but if it’s not something you’ve considered then perhaps the time is now to do so.
It can be hard to work out whether your symptoms are related to your house, your job or your general ability to pick up every bug going, but it might be worth looking at your house under a microscope. Not a literal one, but if you have regular issues when you’re at home then it could well be your house making you sick. So, with this in mind, we’ve got five signs your home could be making you unhealthy.
-
Your home is moldy. When you have mold in the home, you can bet that it’s due to moisture that’s getting in from somewhere. In the damper months of the year, you’re going to have your heating on for longer. You could even be living somewhere exceptionally humid and find that your home is moist for that reason. The warmer your home, the more it’s at risk of developing mold. Breathing this is not good for anyone’s lungs, and it’s important you deal with the moisture AND the mold.
-
You’re finding poop – but it’s not yours. Ideally, your poop ends up in the toilet, but we’re not talking human poop here, we’re talking animal droppings. Calling out your pest control team to check out your walls and basement will be the best option if you notice droppings around the home. You will find that your home is a very unsanitary place to be if you have pests in it, so don’t wait around to get this one fixed up!
-
Your vents aren’t clean. When was the last time you went through the home and dusted all the vents? Dusty vents mean that the air you’re breathing is dirty. You don’t want to be breathing in this dirty air as it creates a breeding ground for more dirt and mold. Keep the vents clean and you’ll keep your lungs clear, too.
-
Your bathroom fan isn’t working. You need to have your bathroom properly ventilated because you are going to end up showering or bathing in there. When the room isn’t ventilated properly, mold and moisture gather and as discussed earlier, this is a bad thing!
-
You’re getting sleepier. Do you find that you’re finding yourself falling asleep when you don’t plan to? Did you know that this could be a sign of a broken carbon monoxide alarm and a leak? When carbon monoxide leaks into the house, you are slowly being poisoned. That’s definitely no good for your health!
