The wait is finally over! Today Friday 16th October is the launch of the highly anticipated Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed exclusively on Nintendo Switch only! This game is brought to you by Outright Games and is based on the highly popular anime series. It brings the franchise across to the West in a major way ahead of new shows going live on Netflix.
Before I dive into the game, let me tell you a bit about Zoids. Zoids is a science fiction media franchise created by Takara Tomy that feature giant robots with designs being based on animals called Zoids. The story is about Zoid pilots and their Zoids on a quest for freedom and legendary treasure. Zoids Wild is the 5th Zoids anime TV series with Chaotic Century, New Century, Fuzors and Genesis preceding this.
This game is based on Zoids Wild anime, and just like every game, there is always a hero and a villain. So will you be in Arashi’s Team Freedom or the power-hungry Team Dark Metal? Choose your hero and battle your way to defeat your rivals!
In this game, you can either play solo against CPU or two players in the battle mode. There are 16 characters to choose from, but when you first play it, there are only five characters available. You have to unlock the characters through the story mode. You also get to choose one Blast Effect (power up, gauge up, energy up, speed up or breaker up) for your Zoid. Each blast effect has its own boost to help you to win the battle. Each battle is won on a best of three rounds basis.
In the story mode, you get to choose your adventure and see who you are battling with. Only one player can go on a head-to-head battle with a rival to unlock characters/treasure and explore the story between human and Zoid. There are over 100 missions to complete! This is going to take a while for us to battle! We managed to battle five missions and complete less than 4% of the story mode.
There is a Continuous Battle mode where a player takes on seven challengers back-to-back to push your Zoid to the limit!
Last but not least, there is a Practice mode, where you train with your Zoid and learn the ins-and-outs of battling. You learn the basics, wild actions, how to guard, weak spots of your rival, wild blast, counter attacks, secret training and dark blast.
This game is very exciting and we all enjoy battling each other. During each mission, we discover more moves and combos to use, and it is not hard to learn at all. The graphics are stunning and the music provides a good upbeat soundtrack to the game.
