How To Create A Guest Room

29 November 2018 by Eileen

How To Create A Guest Room Your Family And Friends Will Thank You For!

Whether it’s a special occasion, or you simply haven’t seen each other in a while, there’s something very exciting about having family and friends to stay overnight. Being able to share that amount of time with those you love the most and inviting them into your personal family time is a luxury that not many people experience these days. One problem you may face as host, is wanting to impress your family and friends when they come to stay, so we’ve come up with some ideas on how to create a guest room your family and friends will thank you for. Check it out:

how to create a guest room

Add lighting to create a relaxing ambience

Believe it or not, lighting makes all of the difference to how a person perceives a room. While main lights are very useful in a room, they aren’t a very relaxing or inviting addition to any room. Adding lamps on either side of the guest bed will help create the relaxing scene that your guests are after. If you’re looking to wow your guests a little, consider using backlighting around furniture to modernise and light up the room in a surprising, yet trendy way.

Include luxuries to create a personal space for them

You may have stayed at a family member or friends house before, and you’ll probably agree that even though you were made to feel very welcome, you missed your personal space at home. Creating a personal space in your guest room that reminds them of home will help your guests relax with ease. Luxuries such as adding a TV in their room will allow them to retire to their bedroom and watch TV, and have some personal time for themselves. It might be a good idea to consider buying a digital aerial so that your guests have improved sound and quality on their TV.

Make them feel at home

One of the greatest parts of having guests to stay is that you’re inviting them into your personal lives – the bit that nobody sees! The times where you and your family lounge around in your dressing gowns and slippers, you get the idea. Why not make your guests feel at home by providing them with a dressing gown and slippers so that they can join your family and feel part of the fun! Plus, having these around will allow them to relax even further in your guest room.

Show off your style

Finally, what’s the point in having a guest room if you’re not able to show off your style too? While your guests aren’t coming to judge your taste in home decor, it’s always nice to show off the hard work you’ve put into your home. Here are some tips on how to wow your guests with style:

  • Stick to a colour scheme
  • Create a feature wall
  • Impress your guests with scents as well as looks. Scented candles are a great way to achieve this.
  • Hang artwork that ties the room together and reflects the rest of the decor in your home

As you can see, it’s easier than you think to create a guest room that not only reflects your style, but also a room that your family and friends will thank you for.
