Beasts of Balance & Expansion Pack Review

30 November 2018 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Beasts of Balance is a fun family stacking game, which is played and brought to life via a free app on iOS and Android tablets & smartphones. This multi-award winning set is a game of strategy and balance in which either you work cooperatively with your family and friends to build a tower of beasts on the Plinth or use the brand new Battles expansion pack to play head-to-head!

We have heard so many good reviews on this game but have never tried it before so we were thrilled to be able to test it out! Beasts of Balance game was first launched in 2016 and now they are bringing more challenging expansion packs and add-on artefacts for their loyal fans!

This set comes with a Plinth (base), six Beast Artefacts, two Miracle Artefacts, ten Element Artefacts, three Migrate Artefacts and three Cross Artefacts. It requires three AA batteries to run the plinth, which are not included. I love the quality and the feel of each of the artefacts. They all have very vibrate colours and are very well-made. Setting it up is very simple. You will need to download the free app (App Store or Google Play) on your smart devices. Then follow through the tutorial to get you started. Do note that each artefact has a symbol printed on it and that is for you to scan your artefact onto the plinth to register the artefact.

The game is very straightforward to play where you either play solo or with a group of family or friends. You learn how to build balancing towers and create fabulous worlds using your skills, strategy and creativity. We all love the concept of this game and my son particularly loves the challenge of balancing the artefacts! We also enjoy creating and discovering lots of unique beasts!

The fun doesn’t stop there! Now the creator, Sensible Object, has added more artefacts and expansion packs to the game!

We have received the Battle expansion pack which contains 16 augmented reality Battle Cards, which uses the same NFC technology as the physical game pieces. This battle mode is for two to three players only. Each player chooses their own guardian spirits: Sky, Land or Sea. Each player gets a set of cards which allow them to invoke a whole host of weird and wonderful effects in the digital realm. Some of the cards are focused on attack, some will aid in defence, and some will manifest. The goal is to fill your region with powerful beasts while stealing and destroying those of your opponents.

We love playing this game and can go on for hours trying to balance the artefacts and stopping the volcano from erupting! This is a very well thought out and well-made game for young and old. Both of my children love it and I would recommend it. It is available to buy from Beasts of Balance website, good toy retailers and online.
