From Colour To Clutter, Points To Address Before Selling Your Home

1 October 2018 by Eileen

If you are planning on selling your home, there are a number of different elements you need to address to make sure that it is stage correctly and that any drawbacks are dealt with so they do not put buyers off. So, let’s take a look…

From Colour To Clutter, Points To Address Before Selling Your Home

Don’t simply shove your clutter in a closet

Shoving things into a cupboard or closet… We are all guilty of it! You are pressed for time, and that pile of clothes simply looks too daunting. Plus, no one will see so it doesn’t matter, right? Wrong!

Nothing is out of bounds when it comes to a home viewing. Do you really want to experience that awkward moment when someone asks to look inside your closet and everything from shoes, to handbags, to clothes comes tumbling out?

You may think you have to be extremely unlucky for a viewer to ask to look inside a cupboard or a closet. But, the truth is, this happens more often than you would imagine! Potential buyers often want to see how much space they will have for storage, and so they will regularly ask to have a peek inside of your closets and such like.

Storage space is also high up on most buyers’ list of priorities. Find out what else is at NHBC.co.uk. A tidy wardrobe or cupboard looks more spacious and can be a major plus point for your home.

If you don’t have enough time to sort out that massive pile of clothes, why not chuck them into a bag and ask a neighbour if you could leave it at theirs whilst the viewing takes place? Or you could put them in your car!

Does the colour of your home reflect the lifestyle of the property?

All good home stagers will tell you that when selling your home what you are really trying to sell is the lifestyle! It is not simply about your lovely hardwood flooring, or your stunning French doors, or your upgraded kitchen… it’s about creating the type of life that people want to lead!

One of the ways to create the right atmosphere is through the use of paint. After all, colour contains a wealth of symbolisation and they evoke a great feeling within individuals as well. If you read any colour and paint advice in relation to home staging you will soon discover that neutral shades come highly recommended. They offer a relaxing and comforting environment. They also appeal to all tastes.

But do not feel as if you are restricted to natural and muted colours, especially if they do not reflect the lifestyle of your property. Let’s say your home is bachelor pad – a minimalist apartment. You may wish to go for a monochrome colour palette, or why not embrace a stark red shade? This may not be the best idea in a cosy little Georgian townhouse, but in a lad’s apartment, it definitely conveys the lifestyle you are trying to sell.

Watching your pennies? Five quick tips for home staging on a budget!

Home staging doesn’t have to break the bank! You don’t have to turn your house upside down and redecorate it from head to toe. In fact, it is largely about reworking what you already have. Here are some top budget tips…

  •   De-clutter and de-personalise – It does not cost a penny to get rid of clutter and any personal items. Personal items are distracting and they put a barrier in the way, as the viewer finds it difficult to connect with the property.
  •   Paint your home – Paint is a must when it comes to home staging on a budget. It is the cheapest way to make a massive change to your property.
  •   Be savvy when shopping – Nowadays it is easy to pick up a bargain. You can find home accessories available at unbelievably low prices! Shop with your bargain hunter head on! Use websites like NetVoucherCodes.co.uk to get discount codes that you can apply to the checkout when you are buying anything online.
  •   Embrace your hardwood flooring – Is your carpet looking dirty and worn? If so, get rid of it and show off the hardwood floor that is underneath – if it is in good shape of course. Hardwood floors are a main selling point.
  •   Hire a professional home stager – Do your maths! A professional home stager can make your home sell for much more than you are asking for at present. Sit down and discover whether this is worth it.

Hopefully, you now feel more prepared when it comes to selling your home and showcasing the very best of it. Good luck!
