3 July 2018 by Eileen

Whether you work at home all the time or need a place where you can go and concentrate on occasion, a home office is perfect for space for this. However, converting a room into an ideal office space and be a challenge, especially if you are a busy mom with lots on your plate already. Luckily, if you keep reading, you will find some simple, easy, and speedy hacks that can help turn your home office into a place in which you want to spend all your time.

Classy Home Office Hacks For Busy Mums

Go for white on the walls.

One of the easiest ways to save time and effort when you are creating a home office space is to go for white paint on the walls. In fact, using white paint is such a good idea for many reasons. The first is that its relatively inexpensive, and this means if you do get any stains or marks on the walls you can easily and cheaply repaint them without much hassle.

Another reason you should go for white is that it makes a room seem light and bright and is very neutral in colour. Something that means it will go with any decorative scheme you choose and still look as classy as possible.

Choose traditional-style furniture.

Next, for a comfortable, yet classy space that will enhance your property, why not pick out some home office traditional furniture that matches your needs? When buying such pieces you will need to consider items such as a desk or bureau, the latter being something that has added storage so can be a real bonus in keeping things as organised as possible for busy mums.

Of course, the more classic styling of pieces like these will ensure that your office space look expensive and classy and if you want to push the boat out you can have some bespoke pieces commission for your particular need and space as well. Something that will cut down on the effort of finding items to fit into an awkward space as well as last you a lifetime, saving you both effort and hassle.

Create a kids space.

Also, as a mum, it’s important to spend quality time with the kids, as well as encourage them and set a good example. Luckily, there is no better way to model positive study behaviour than to demonstrate it yourself, something that you can do easily if you provide a space within your office where the kids can come and do their homework or creative tasks alongside you.

To achieve this, it’s likely you will need some smaller desks, chairs, or work benches that match the tone and style of your own pieces. Also, don’t forget to set some clear expectations about behaviour while in your home office space, otherwise, you will end up being more of a homework helper and getting distracted from your own essential tasks.

Choose blinds for the windows.

An excellent suggestion for window dressing in a home office space is to go with blinds instead of curtains. The reason that these are good for busy mums is that they are quick to clean and they can be adjusted to prevent glare on your computer screen, something that can be hugely problematic when working at home.

To pick the right blinds for your windows remember to measure them correctly, something you can find out more about how to do here. Also, do note that if you plan to include a kids space in your home office, it’s a good idea to use some safety measure for blind such as the ones you will find discussed here.

Don’t forget about storage.

Lastly, for your home office to remain a classy environment that is conducive to work it is essential to include enough storage. In fact, storage is vital because it allows you to keep organised quickly and efficiently, something that many busy mums will appreciate.

To achieve this, you will need places to keep and organise paperwork, as well as spaces for your office equipment that will keep it as tidy as possible.

Of course, for a more classically styled office, it is essential to get storage items that fit in with your decor and compliment well. To this end, consider install filing cabinets, or addition bookshelf systems in a more traditional style, as well as using in trays and pencil pots on your desk itself to keep things as neat as tidy as you possibly can. Something you will be truly glad of when the kids are napping, and you only have a short time to complete that essential task.
