Treads School Shoe Review

27 April 2018 by Eileen

Earlier this month, we were testing out these Treads school shoes for Mr K and we wanted to see how it fared after a few weeks. Will they stand up to the test by my shoe chewing son (yes, he somehow managed to wear his previous pair of shoes until they split like a big mouth) and will it keep going into the new school year? Yes, they have so far and they should! Treads are so confident with their specially designed moulded soles and reinforced shoes that they have 12 months Indestructible Guarantee.

At the moment, they are only selling boys school range from size 12.5 Junior to size 11, but they will be launching girls school shoes this coming 2019. Watch this space!

Treads have a range of eight different designs of black leather boys’ school shoes to choose from, for children aged 6 to 16. You can either have lace or slip on or touch-fasten to choose from! Mr K went for Madrid style which is the riptape touch-fasten range. He has always been keen on lace-up styles but this time around, he decided that he would like it without laces. This range starts from size 12.5 junior to size 4.

As this is my first time ordering online, I printed out their paper foot gauge to help me to measure his foot! It is so easy to use and I was able to get an accurate measurement. Or you can use their size calculator to calculate the size or buy the measuring gauge through their website. I found that the shoes fit Mr K’s feet exactly as expected. What I like about Treads is that every Treads shoe comes with a dual fit technology. It gives you the option to remove the orange EVA footbed to convert to the wider fit option for children with wider feet. By removing the footbed, it also gives more depth, making dual fit footwear ideal should your child wish to use orthotics.

This shoe comes with riptape fastening for adjustability and padded ankle for support and a comfortable fit. The shoe also comes with anti-scuff complete protection which means the shoe will last longer! The base of the shoe is made up of four layers. These are the shock absorbing EVA removable insole, orange EVA footbed for a wider fit, Texon cellulose board to reinforce sole and wick away moisture and fused sole for hardwearing, non-slip and non-marking.

They have Permair Leather uppers which should allow feet to breathe while keeping them dry and reinforced heels to prevent splitting. The stitching is really tight and well finished all around and the soles are comfortable. Overall the shoes are very well made and durable. It is also easy to clean.

Wearing these Treads shoes, Mr K can feel the difference between Treads and the supermarket shoes. His first impression was that he felt very comfortable wearing the shoes as it provided him cushioning around his feet and ankles. It gives him more freedom and flexibility to walk or climb the climbing frame.

I am well impressed and the shoes are very good value for money. They cost less than a branded shoe. After a few weeks of wear, the shoes still look good inside and out, especially the sole which still has plenty of grip. There are no scuffs that I can see. This shoe should last him a while, hopefully until his feet have outgrown the size of the shoes. I would definitely buy these again.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
