The Snowman Tour 2017

19 September 2017 by Eileen 9 Comments

The Snowman Tour is coming near you this December and the tickets are now on sale at venues across the country. This is the best time to treat your little ones or even grandparents to this magical Christmas film on a big screen accompanied by a live, professional orchestra playing the original score. There will be a visit from the Snowman and it features a young local soloist who will sing the classic “Walking in the air” which lies at the heart of the Snowman.

This is the fifth annual tour by Carrot Productions across the Midlands and the North and this year, they are visiting five more cathedrals for the first time – York, Worcester, Lichfield, Liverpool and Durham as well as the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom and Hull City Hall, with a show that couples The Snowman with Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. We are so excited that they are coming to the only medieval English cathedral with three spires, Lichfield Cathedral and we can’t wait to check them out!

The performance is in two halves. The first half lasts around 35 minutes and the second half lasts for 30 minutes. Some performances have a 20 minute interval though a few venues with limited facilities may have no interval.

At the majority of the performances, the first half will feature a wonderfully Christmassy overture followed by a brand new animated film of the award winning book, The Bear and the Piano, by David Litchfield. With the recorded voice of Joanna Lumley narrating, it promises to enchant all ages. Along with a surprise conductor in the Snowman Waltz leading into the film itself, it promises to be a feast of sights and sounds to thrill the whole family.

For performances in York, Worcester, Lichfield, Liverpool and Durham, there is a chance to catch Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, which will be accompanied by the highly-acclaimed animated film by Tom Scott. Alongside Dan Whibley’s Festive Guide to the Orchestra featuring some of the UK’s top musicians, you can be assured of a truly entertaining evening for all ages. The Snowman film is shown in the second half of each concert.

The concert is suitable for all ages from 3 and above, and it is a great time to introduce the young ones to the orchestra! I know it is only September but do buy the tickets early to avoid disappointment as some locations have already fully booked!

Disclosure: I will be reviewing the tour this December in exchange for this post and a review after the show. Images used with permission.
