Disney Pete’s Dragon Review

10 December 2016 by Eileen 1 Comment

Disney Pete’s Dragon is a 2016 American fantasy adventure film directed by David Lowery that is available to buy it now on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download. This is a remake of the 1977 musical film of the same name written by Malcolm Marmorstein.

The story is set in the year 1977. Pete, a five-year-old boy, is on a road trip with his parents when their car flips off the road trying to avoid a deer. Pete survives the crash and is chased into the forest by a pack of wolves. Luckily, a green dragon rescues him. Pete names the dragon Elliot after his favourite book and they both become best friends.

Six years later, when a group of lumberjacks led by Gavin are working in the woods and chopping down some trees, Natalie was wandering around the forest and found Pete. Soon she learns about his history and the truth about the magical dragon.

This is a heart-warming film that doesn’t contain too much CGI. It captures the characters well and sends out a powerful message: the importance of friendship and family. This film is very different from other Disney films and it is a truly magical film to watch.

This Blu-ray comes with the following bonus features:

  • Notes to Self: A Director’s Diary
  • Making Magic
  • “Disappearing” Moments
  • Bloopers
  • Welcome to New Zealand
  • Audio Commentary – Gain an insider perspective from director David Lowery, co-writer Toby Halbrooks and actors Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence.
  • Music Videos: “Nobody Knows” by The Lumineers & “Something Wild” by Lindsey Stirling featuring Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Disney has worked with the Irish Fairy Door company to create this exclusive Pete’s Dragon themed door for us. This door is extra special; instead of a fairy moving in, this will become home for our very own dragon! Check out his little green tail poking out of the door! Now we have to find a place to stick the door and release our dragon!
