Paper Mario: Color Splash Review for Wii u

30 October 2016 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Have you tried out this awesome Paper Mario series: Colour Splash?  In this new game, you take on the role of Mario to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Prism Island’s Big Paint Stars and seek to restore colour to the land with your new paint hammer.

This game recently launched on 7th October 2016 on the Wii U platform and it’s a one player game.  It is available from all the major retailers and through the Nintendo eShop for download.

The game has such an interesting concept and it’s great that it’s suitable and appeals for all ages from three onwards.  Both of my children love it but they were disappointed that it’s only for one player so they have to take it in turns to play.

The combination of classic 2D characters, a rich 3D world and an orchestral soundtrack gives Paper Mario Color Splash its distinctive style and charm. I find the graphics really appealing, especially the 2D characters which makes them unique as they are made from paper!  Also, we love the soundtrack!  This game also takes full advantage of various features the Wii U GamePad has to offer to offer a unique immersive gameplay experience.

Playing as Mario, you must solve puzzles, progress through a variety of landscapes and prove your skill in turn-based battles against a variety of fiendish enemies. You have to restore colour to Prism Island using your Paint Hammer and free the Toads.

Roaming around the island, you can collect cards or buy them with coins from the local Toad-helmed card shop. Use these cards in the turn-based battles and Mr K particularly enjoys these.  You have to use well-timed jumps and hammer blows to defeat the enemies and win coins.  The cards system will allow him to host a variety of attacks!  There are quite a lot of battles throughout the game which keep my children entertained.  The gameplay is easy to pick up so the kids loved it immediately.

Did you know that you can cut, roll, and fold the scenery to discover new paths and reach new areas, all with a high-definition hand-crafted look?  This is a lot of fun.  Also by developing Mario’s combat abilities over time, it helps to increase the amount of paint Mario can access, making it easier to use powerful attacks, and earn the ability to use multiple battle cards in combat to chain together impressive attacks!

Adults would enjoy this game too as it has universal appeal and we would recommend it.  It is very simple and straightforward to play and the levels are not too difficult complete. Read more about it here: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Wii-U/Paper-Mario-Color-Splash-1090845.html
