The Best of British is the board game of what makes Britain British. This classic picture board game light-heartedly delves into our everyday life – reminding us of the diverse, unique, quirky and hilarious things, people and places that make Britain such an outstanding place to live.
Many of you may know that I was not born in the UK and I am continuously learning about British culture and their iconic symbols! Through this game, I find that it not only helps me to increase my general knowledge of Britain, it also help me to understand the culture better. For example, I didn’t realise the nickname for a large mug of strong tea, usually served with milk and lots of sugar is called a builder’s tea. Also not forgetting the sandcastles, conkers, Blackpool rock, Big Ben, the weather forecast, double-decker buses and much more.
This game is suitable for ages 12 and above. We played this together with our children and they managed to guess some of it. The game includes 300 Best of British question cards, purple plastic card holder, 6 playing pieces, playing board and instructions. The game is well made from thick cardboard and good quality plastic holders and playing pieces.
There are three kinds of question cards: picture cards, common theme cards and pot luck cards. For picture cards, you are shown a picture that the questions are related to. For common theme cards, the questions are based on a common theme which will tell you on the card like Olympics, Diamond Jubilee etc. As for the pot luck cards, it could be any random Best of British questions. On each question card, there are four questions to answer and for each question, there is a colour band for you to move to on the board when you answer it correctly.
To play this game is very straightforward and fun. It tests you all about Britain. It’s a great game as it’s easy to play. We all had fun playing it and I would highly recommend it. This is available to buy in good stores and Amazon.
