Teddy Together is an interactive simulation game launched on 1st July 2016 that allows children to become friends with a teddy bear. He/She comes to life, talking and asking questions to learn more about their little friend. It is available to buy in store and from the eshop, suitable for aged 3 onwards.
After downloading the game, Ms C gave the teddy bear a name – Tom. He is an adorable bear and loves to ask questions to get to know Ms C better, from who is her family, favourite teacher, friends etc. Teddy will only ask a limited number of questions per day and some activities will not always be available to the player such as cooking meals if Teddy is not hungry.
Besides interacting using the touchscreen and microphone with Tom, Ms C also has to complete various tasks for Tom’s like preparing meals, gardening, playing games and many more.
In this game, Ms C gets to practise her spelling such as spelling people’s names or items. Ms C is not great at her spelling and has to keep asking me how to spell various words so this is a nice tool to increase her learning.
Also children get to practise their reading and grammar while chatting with their teddy bear. If your child can’t read, they can just turn up the volume and listen to Teddy speak out loud.
Whenever you complete a task, you earn coins which can be used to buy clothing and accessories from the wardrobe. There are no in-app purchases. Players use their coins to purchase items for their teddy. Also by playing with him daily, you will collect additional coins and bonuses.
If you have a compatible amiibo (sold separately), this can be used to unlock additional in-game coins. Each day, an amiibo of a certain character (selected from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser or Toad) will become a lucky amiibo, and if a player taps that amiibo, they will receive bonus coins. We had the New Nintendo 3DS where we can tap the amiibo to the NFC area on the bottom screen.
Ms C enjoys this game and has been playing with Tom on a daily basis. She enjoys the interaction, the responsibility of looking after him and making sure he is clean and well fed. She gets so excited when she goes up a level! This game is similar to a Tamagotchi where you look after a pet, but it has obviously been brought bang up to date on the Nintendo 3DS. I do find Teddy’s voice a bit weird but it doesn’t bother Ms C. I think this is a cute game that young children will love.
