Cooking with Wing Yip

6 March 2016 by Eileen

Earlier last month, we received a Chinese New Year pack from Wing Yip to help us to cook some nice Chinese meals. We are no strangers to Wing Yip as we pop by our local Birmingham store every few months to stock up on all our favourite Asian ingredients and foods. We often buy a 20 kg bag of rice, frozen dim sum, instant noodles and not forgetting all my favourite snacks! I love to buy prawn crackers, dried fish slices and various drinks many more!

Anyway, I have received these four different type of sauces: Chinese Fried Rice Sauce, Curry Sauce, Sweet and Sour sauce and Yellow Bean sauce.

These sauces are really straightforward to use. All you need to do is add the sauce as you’re cooking your food, job done. For the fried rice sauce, you just need to add a little and it will give an intense taste. I tend to cook a big meal for lunch and dinner. This small bottle would last me at least 10 portions. We tend not like it too salty, so just a bit of sauce will do. We love this sauce and have already used it for all our fried rice dishes.

The curry sauce is delicious and authentic to a typical takeaway curry sauce. Again you just need to put a few tablespoons of sauce and you will get a thick gravy. If you like a Chinese curry, then you will love this sauce.

As for the sweet and sour sauce, I prefer to deep fry the meat before adding the sauce. To make the coating, I mixed plain flour with salt and pepper. Dice the chicken and dip it in the mixture. Then with beaten eggs, coat the chicken again. Then deep fried the chicken piece until it turns golden brown. Take the meat out and drain the oil on a kitchen towel. Chopped green and red peppers, onion and garlic and stir fry. Add the meats before adding the sauce. Once the meat is coated with the sauce, it is ready to serve.

Last but not least, we also used the yellow bean sauce. I tend to use it to make char sui sauce and coat pork with it. Do you like to cook Chinese food? If you do, give these sauces a try and you might find something you like!

Disclosure: We received the samples for the purposes of writing this review however all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

Hubby cooks a lot of chinese food as we all love it plus his grandfather was chinese so it’s part of his culture. We struggle to find ingredients though as the only place we can buy some is Coventry indoor market. These dishes look delicious though.
