Schleich: The First Dinosaurs Review

22 February 2016 by Eileen

I am so excited to share with you this latest new addition Schleich 2016 range which has gone back to the era when prehistoric creatures first walked our planet with the introduction of ‘The First Dinosaurs’. This Schleich dinosaur range is suitable for children aged 3 and above.

The collection will include five of the first well known dinosaurs, each of which come complete with moving jaw and educational booklet containing facts about each dinosaur. The species includes the Dilophosaurus, Dimetrodon, Barapasaurus, Herrerasaurus and Dunkleosteus.

schleich the first dinosaurs

We have received these two striking dinosaurs: Dilophosaurus and Dimetrodon. The finish on the dinosaurs is to a very high standard. Undoubtedly, Schleich toys are very durable and are made to last for a long time. Each dinosaur has their own distinctive pose and detailed features. Both are able to stand on their own. Their jaws are articulated so they can open their mouths too.

This dark blue Dilophosaurus with gorgeous red features that certainly looks very threatening. He has a huge mouth full of long teeth. He measures 15cm long by 11cm tall. He has long hindlimbs vertically under the pelvis and short forelimbs.

The Dilophosaurus lived 200-192 million years ago during the early Jurassic period. It was up to six metres long, and was one of the first large carnivorous dinosaurs of prehistoric times. After the Compsognathus and the Velociraptor, the Dilophosaurus was one of the fastest prehistoric saurians.

This orange dangerous looking Dimetrodon has a sail on its back made of skin and bones and was an excellent hunter. It even killed prey bigger than itself. The Dimetrodon was a dreaded apex predator, which lived about 300-270 million years ago – thus 40-70 million years before the first prehistoric saurian. It was not a “real” dinosaur, but rather a prehistoric reptile which was surprisingly closely related to mammals. It preyed upon reptiles, amphibians and fish, which it tore into pieces with its many razor-sharp teeth. He measures 15.5 cm long and 9cm tall.

They looked fab when we saw them at Toy Fair – would fit perfectly with Monkey and his latest Prehistoric Adventures obsession too
