Scanpan CTX Wok Review

18 December 2015 by Eileen

Recently, I came across the SCANPAN CTX range which combines luxurious, sleek design with function & performance in the kitchen. The Raven-Black non-stick interior elegantly compliments the satin finish exterior.

This CTX range showcases a patented ceramic titanium non-stick surface allowing use of any utensil, including metal utensils. SCANPAN’S GreenTek coating is 100% free from PFOA and PFOS chemicals. It has a 7 layer construction for optimum heat conduction.

The wok comes a large rectangular box and inside the wok is protected with a drawstring linen bag. This wok also comes with a pair of long wooden chopsticks and a rack. The wooden chopsticks are quite chunky and I find that sometimes it is quite difficult to grip the food! The rack sits well on the wok as you can see in the photo. I have always wanted a rack on my old woks to drain the excess oil so I’m really pleased with this. The rack comes with three prongs on the side. When positioning it on the wok, you have to be careful not to scratch the inside of the wok.

The wok is quite heavy and very stylish. The finish on the wok and the handles are made to very high standard. The RRP is £174 which is not cheap but you feel that this wok could last for a very long time.

It is suitable for all stove tops (including induction). It does take up quite a big space on my hob so it is not easy to have four functioning hobs at the same time. The handles are cast from pure stainless steel and secured with heavy duty stainless steel rivets. It is designed and manufactured in Denmark. It is also dishwasher safe. I don’t own a dishwasher and so have not had chance to try it out. The wok does take up lot of room in a standard size sink while washing so I would imagine it would be quite bulky to fit into a dishwasher!

After using this for deep frying and stir frying, I realised I miss a lid. This would be perfect if it came with a stylish glass lid.

Overall this is a premium quality wok which is really great to use. It cooks the food evenly and the heat is very well distributed. The coating on the wok seems indestructible but time will tell. It is available to buy from your local kitchen stores, Haus or Amazon.

This looks great. I love it when a non stick pan is actually non stick!
