Philips Perfectcare Elite Iron Review

16 November 2015 by Eileen

Love to iron without reading the labels and changing the settings? Then you must try out this Philips Perfectcare Elite Iron GC9600 Series! It can go straight from jeans to silk and it is guaranteed to not burn all ironable fabrics?

Ironing can be daunting and troublesome. I still remember how I used to switch the dial on the iron to get the right temperature. Not only that, but you would have to wait a while before you could move to a different fabric!

When I received the product, I was really shocked by its size. It comes with a huge base and so it does require a big working area. This is my video demonstration of how I used it and my thoughts about it: https://youtu.be/8ni7H6r3PZE

This iron is very easy to set up. All you need is to fill the water tank with tap water or demineralised water but never perfumed water, vinegar, descaling agents, ironing aids etc. The tank is huge at 1.8 litres.

Now plug it in and you are ready to switch it on! It comes with two buttons and a warning light on the side. They are ECO, on/off (and Turbo Steam Mode) and empty water tank indication. The ECO mode is to save energy but still have sufficient steam to iron all your garments. The button will turn green when you select it. The on/off button is also dubbed as the Turbo Steam Mode. You can use it for thick garments to have better steam penetration. The empty water tank indication will turn red when it is nearly empty.

It takes two minutes to heat up and once it heat up, the Blue light will stop flashing (constant) on the iron itself. Now you are ready to iron!

Over here, I am using the Philips Easy 8 ironing board which comes with lot of features! Besides the XL iron tray, it comes with a storage basket, hanging rail, cord holder and shoulder wings.

I love the other great feature of this iron – ‘safe rest’ which means you can leave the hot iron soleplate directly on the garments or cotton ironing board cover. As this ironing board is so big, I tend to just leave it on the ironing board cover!

Another great feature is that you can iron your clothing vertically – simply use the steam trigger to release steam for ironing!

This iron also comes with an Easy De-Calc. If the Easy De-Calc light starts to flash and the appliance beeps continuously, place a jug under the Easy De-Calc knob and turn the knob anti-clockwise. Let the water with scale particles flow into the jug and empty it.

There are a couple of neat safety features too. It comes with a Carry Lock release button which allows you to lock the iron in place. It is quite release and easy to use. Also, the iron will auto turn off after 10 minutes without using it.

Overall, I am enjoying ironing very much as I don’t feel my arm aching and with the OptimalTEMP, there is no temperature setting! I hate reading labels! With its big water tank, it allows me to iron more clothing without having to keep topping it up. The iron is lightweight, powerful and is great for anyone who regularly does a lot of ironing.
