Interplay HoverCraft Review

23 August 2015 by Eileen 1 Comment

Want to build your own working powered hovercraft? Why not take a look at this Interplay HoverCraft kit. It has everything you need to build it! This kit is recommended for ages 8 and above and will likely require plenty of help from an adult. Both of my children were not able to help as this kit is quite flimsy.

The kit includes:

  • Fan assembly with electric motor
  • Plug-in battery box
  • 2 moulded trays for chassis
  • Pre-cut cabin, air-box, and rudder components
  • Self-adhesive rubber strip
  • Inflatable skirt
  • Paper fasteners
  • String
  • Self-adhesive fasteners
  • Instructions

It requires 4 AAA batteries for the battery box. This hovercraft took me over 20 minutes to build as the whole structure was quite flimsy and not easy to fasten onto the trays.

There are two ways of playing with this hovercraft. You can either hover it using one tray or fit the skirt around the tray to play on a variety of surfaces.

I find that to fly the hovercraft without the skirt is a lot simpler. When you turned on the fan, the air pressure will blow on the top and bottom to create this air pressure to move the hovercraft around. We played it on the laminate floor which it hovers along very easily. This hovercraft does not always go straight so imagine the fun we fun trying to pass it to one another!

As I mentioned earlier I also made it with the skirt, I did accidentally put too many holes onto the skirt and it didn’t inflate properly. In the kit, it did provide extra length of inflatable skirt. I did try to redo it but I put it the wrong way around! Terrible me! So for now, we are happy with just hovering on a smooth surface!

This is a very interesting kit that I would highly recommend to anyone! The kit also comes with a spare tray just in case you did it wrong, just like me!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review however all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
